For those of you who are posting the "recommend a knife to me" threads... I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I'm glad I didn't take (nearly) everyone's advice here and get a $200 knife. Instead, I picked my knife based off of the features it had, rather than "better" materials and brand name reputation.

I've had an expensive Benchmade knife in the past; it was very uncomfortable to grip tightly and the blade swung open way to easily (which is bad when it's inside your pocket). It now sits in a desk drawer at my parent's house.

Here's my CRKT M16-13SF (the smaller Special Forces model).

Not a bad semi introduction into the knife world. :)

It could have been worse ! :D

I love how not liking one expensive knife makes all expensive knives stupid compared to your awesome affordable one. Man, I sure feel silly with my expensive knife when I could have had all that hotness for so much less.

I predict in about a years time you'll be here straining to overpraise some $100ish knife while snidely condemning others for getting conned into buying Sebenzas by all that hype.

Regardless, enjoy your knife. Try not to get too Special Forces with it. It could be dangerous.

One key to knife shopping, or shopping for anything, is not spending more than you're comfortable with.

Like I said in the post, this is meant for all of those who are trying to decide on what to buy.

And I doubt I'll still be on these forums in a year.

I'm just teasing you. I bought one of those about five years ago my senior year in high school because I thought all black knives with tanto blades and serrations looked totally badass. I can't judge.

There's a lot more depth to knives than you can imagine. You should stick around. I doubt that thing will hold up more than a few years, anyway. Mine sure didn't. Only knife I ever had to outright toss. You'll be wanting something nicer sooner or later.

On behalf of the folks who responded to your "recommend a knife to me" thread let me thank you for coming and wasting their time. Buy what you like and like what you buy, but a few minutes of lurking here would have let you know what to expect in the way of advice. To come back with this attitude is extremely trollish behaviour IMNSHO.

Eh, so many recommendations try to get the OP to try something different anyway. $150 limit, someone says save for a sebbie. Don't like opening holes, someone says Spydercos are the best bang for the buck. Want a gentleman type knife, someone says SNG. Want a framelock, someone says an axis is butter smooth. Worried about a legal limit on blade length, someone mentions how great a XXL CS Voyager is.

Well... You get what you pay for, enjoy your knife, it is your budget.

Although keep in mind the advice given to you in the previous... It could, possibly... eventually be needed.

I also would like to know what benchmade you had. Ive had several as well as many other knifes and none of them just opened on their own. Id send that benchmade back to benchmade and have them fix it.

Well, the fun of this hobby is finding out for yourself. This is why I do not put down lines of knives (or try not to), (ok, everyone cracked on dork ops). I have owned a bunch and found good things about most.

Have fun.

I don't like CRKTs. However, there was a point in my life where the CRKTs would've been a step up from what I had at the time. I'd just try to be careful with the really thin liner locks on those. I wouldn't be testing the tanto point for stabbiness on anything tough if I were you. To each his own.

For those who are considering what you should get, the OP does have a point, you may not like what people suggest. Get what you want, but do the research so you know exactly what you're getting.

It's a decent knife and CRKT does a good job of sending you a knife that's very sharp right out of the box.
Makes a great first impression!

But use it a bit, and as that CRKT AUS8 blade begins to dull rapidly, you just might find yourself back here looking for a step up.
Something nicely made that needs less frequent sharpening, for example. At a great price.

We have that info. ;)

Or you might want some advice on sharpening up that blade...very soon...
