Well gents, I'm finally going camping! Will be heading down to Mount Nebo Friday sometime between 4pm and 5pm. Nebo is about 10 to 15 minutes outside Nephi down in Central Utah, for those interested in knowing. ;)

Will be going with friends in my apartment complex and possibly my brother and his family. We'll drive down after work, setup camp start a fire and start dinner. While the food is cooking we will probably play games, go hiking or exploring the canyon.

The Mount Nebo Wilderness area is one of the prettiest places on earth in my opinion. The hike to the top is 6 miles of trail in over 1 mile in elivation climb. Really hard but sooo Beautifull. We won't be doing the main trail this time around, just doing some shorter trails. Trail head starts in a small canyon at the base of the mountain. The Campground is in the canyon just a few hundred yards from the trail head. There's plenty of camp sites, Fly fishing spots and little trails to explore in the canyon. I plan on leading a few short hikes that I know.

Khukuri's and knives will be used (safely ;)) quite a bit on the trip to harvest wood and for general camp chores. I'm all ready, just got to plan out the menu for dinner and breakfast. Dinner's main course will be either Home Made Dutch Oven Chili, or Honey Lemon BBQ chicken. There will be Salad's (green saled and potatoe I hope) alone with rolls, drinks and Cobbler for Desert. We have not desided if we will do a group breakfast yet or not. Hope to have that planned tonight. I'm ready to go now!!!

If someone is in the area and wants to join us, you're more then welcome to. I know there are a few Utahian's on the forums.

Just thought I'd let you know about my fun trip we have planned. :D

I did like 6.5 miles with a half mile gain in elevation 2 years ago with a heavy pack and wet clothes and it about did me in.

On the other hand it really made me cut down my pack weight.

Be sure to take pics Heber!

I'm so out of shape now I've no idea what I could do.
I like hearing all about Heber's hikes/outdoor stuff because he obviously brings a lot of enthusiasm to it. Same with Hollow, though hearing about you almost being done in made me feel tired.

Munk,

I never hardly drink soft drinks. But after climbing that mountain it took us like 6 or 7 hours uphill the whole way I stopped at the first fast food place and drank 2 quart size Pepsi's:eek: That was before my trekking poles so it was even harder.

Awesome Heber. Feel the jealousy. Not going anywhere yet, but will be going this year.

Have a great trip! Sounds like a good one. I love going camping, and will be going next weekend. have fun breaking trail!

Hope you have a ball! Any bug issues this time of the year? Black flies, etc.? Rattlesnakes out of hibernation yet?

I think I have to plant a couple of trees and cut the yard. Then it's off to the creek to see if I can fool any trout into eating some feathers attached to a hook.

Have fun, Heber:) I envy you. I haven't gotten to go camping in a couple years. This year is going to be different. I pretty much put it out there that I was not going to skip the whole summer's worth of nice weather. The wife and dog and I are going somewhere for the weekend at least.
I have lots of khuks that are whining to go along with this mysterious thin bladed old knife that showed up at my door last week. It's going to be a couple more months, but i can just see my little family strolling down a quiet river in a canoe. WWII laced to my pack, mystery older'n'dirt knife on my hip. Dog loving the experience. Wife slightly whining;)

Thanks for the well wishes guys!! :D It's shaping up to be a great trip. A couple friends have signed up and even pitched in for dinner, plus more said they wanted to come, just waiting on the money.....

Desided on the menu for dinner, it will be Home Made Dutch Oven Chili, rolls, Salad, and Cobbler along with some juice. I'm asking for $4 to $5 donations to help cover my costs and time. Natalie and I will be buying the fixings tonight. I'm sooo Excited I can hardly wait.

Been camping at Nebo 3 times with the Snow college Outdoor's club, and once with friends back in high school, backpacking about 2 to 3 hours up on the side of the mountain. It's tons of fun.

I hope you all have a great weekend enjoying the out doors, and those that can't go out, do something fun! ;)

Hey Jake, I thought your wife liked to go camping? Even if she doesn't your trip sounds like a blast!

DGG good luck with the fish. Sometimes those buggers are hard to fool. No real bug problems that I know of, though I've only camped at the base of Nebo in the fall. This will be my first Spring Campout so we shall see. There is a chance of snakes along some of the short trails we will take, but hopefully they won't mind us checking out their home turf.

HD Heavy packs and wet clothes are killers on any trip. Glad you made it back safe. Was talking with the guys at the local Camping store, they were telling me that you shouldn't carry more then 1/4 your own weight in your backpack. OR is it 1/3rd? Either way that sure is a lot of stuff.... Camera is packed, going to load the tripod tonight. If I have that I'll take more pics of me with the group. lol!

Heber

P.S. You guys that can't go soon, should try going the next avaliable weekend. Out west we should have a great summe for camping! :D

That sounds like quite the trail . Every six feet forward is one foot up . It sounds like your camp will be great and a good chance to flex the Kukuuri muscles . I hope a good time is had by all .

Have a great trip, Heber. I was considering cooking something up in a dutch oven earlier this week, and it made me think of you.
