I'm going to buy my first Spyderco. Your advice?

I want to buy my very first Spyderco to add to my collection. I don't want to buy something expensive as I'm not familiar with this brand, what if I don't like it? At the same time, the cheapest ones might be of lower quality (or not?), and I don't want to get disappointed.

So, what would be your advice? Thank you.

Spyderco is a great brand that likes to play with different designs and blade steels. It would be hard to give you a starting point other than start with the classics.

An Endura in VG-10 can be had for under $100, you can get a saber or full flat grind, I would recommend the full flat. There are several colors to choose from as well.

Size preference, and in your opinion what is expensive? You’ll get better recommendations after narrowing it down a bit.

I prefer the compression lock. I have a manix 2 that I like the lock on. Bought a salt for a buddy, didn't like the fact you couldn't flip the lockback.. That's mainly cause I like to fidget n flick them open n closed. Not sure what expensive or cheap is to you. A little more info as to what you like would be helpful too.

Well first you have to define expensive. Some here consider expensive 1000$ plus, others 100$ is expensive. So depends on your budget. Spyderco offers a huge diverse selection, a good place to start. I have way more than I should. My favorite is the Military.

Spyderco's two defining innovations are the Spydie hole and the compression lock. You need a knife with both to get the full Spyderco experience.

For $115.50, you can get a Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight Folding Knife 2.92" CTS-BD1N Satin Plain Blade, Black FRN Handles (Paramilitary 3) - C223PBK

Personal preference.
My pick would be manix 2, delica 4, para 3, you can also find the endura zdp-189 still.

What is my budget? Hmmm, that's an interesting question! :D
$1,000? No, that's out of reach for now. Let's say, $100 or so. I think I need something really entry-level at the moment. If I buy another expensive knife now the wife will kill me with that very knife :(
I don't have any preference as to the size, but not smaller than 3" I guess.

Endura or Endela

Sorted by price , low to high : https://www.knifecenter.com/find-th...usrsearch=spyderco+++folders&sortType=priceAs

A Byrd (Spyderco value brand name) is the cheapest way to try out , but higher end has better feel and performance .

Spyderco knives look kinda weird but once to try one in hand , they make sense . But not for everyone , so not a bd idea to start out cheap end . :)

My first thought would be Endela/Endura/Delica based on your size preference. However, as the Shepard pointed out above, if you're looking to experience Spyderco, the Para 3 LW really does capture a great deal of the essence of the brand for the price. Looks like the Manix 2 LW can be purchased right around that same price as well if you wanted something larger, which would also be an excellent choice IMO, and is a personal favorite of mine.

Manix 2 Lightweight, Endela, Stretch 2, Native 5 lightweight, all good choices in a good size range. I think the Endela is the only one that comes in under 100 bucks, but the rest shouldn't stretch that limit too far long as you stick with the base models (which are just fine).
