2 minutes ago, I was reading an interesting thread and flipping my BM Vex (knives need breaking in you know). Not five minutes before that, I had sharpened the thing to an edge made up of mere atoms. In my state of distraction, I cut a fairly deep slice under my thumb nail. I think an out of court settlement of a new Benchmade Dejavoo will shut me up... we'll have to see if they can save the hand. (typing with my weak hand is sloooowwwww).

I figure if I haven't cut myself with any particular knife, I haven't played with it enough.

There's a reason New Graham Knives sends that little bandaid dispenser with every order :)

That, or you can start buying design features unique to Benchmade, like the phenomenal 710 or Morpho. Better yet, buy an original Spyderco Lum or Terzuola instead of those dubious new models.

Michael, this is not to target you specifically, but I positively abhor Benchmade's use of the opening hole, which is in many ways what defines a Spyderco knife.

Sorry, Mike, I don't think you have a case against BF.
Have you considered suing your ISP? :p

Surely you should have known better than to put a sharp edge on your knife...what were you thinking?

I hope the thumb heals quickly...I'm sure that is a bad place for a cut.

:)

Yeah, it's right on my opening finger too. Now I'm going to have a really hard time flicking open those evil Benchmade's with the satin's spawn cold blooded communist opening hole. Maybe it was my use of such a high technology opening device (and the fact that it was pirated) that led to me being injured. If only Benchmade had not commited such a crime as to blatenly steel technologies (a hole) that obviously took Spyderco decades to perfect. I hope I don't get cut on an easy open tuna can, that has a stolen technologies opening hole as well!

From what I hear, Spyderco allowed Benchmade to use the hole (teehee).

They shouldn't have, as it reflects poorly on them both.

If both companies are fine with BM using the hole, how is it reflecting poorly on either?

Spyderco popularized the hole, BM using it under agreement only shows what a great idea Spyderco has. If the companies are cool with it, who are we to be offended?

OMG the Holes, the Holes... stop with the Holes already.

Spyderco uses the Boye Dent. Should they stop because
this was originally David Boye's idea. Should they stop using the
Liner Lock because Michael Walker was the original inventor?

If people let you use their ideas/patents ... that's cool. They aren't
stealing.

I don't like the way Benchmade handled the Skirmish incident, but Spyderco has moved on and maybe we can, too.

Michaelmcgo,

Please heal quickly.

A hole seems a strange definition for a knife. "Buy my knife, it has a round hole in it.":jerkit:

Were I a knifemaker, I think I would want to be be defined by the fit, finish, balance, sharpness, and edgeholding abilities of my knives. In point of fact, these are qualities in which Spyderco knives excel. Which may be why they reached an agreement for Benchmade to use a round hole in their blades. They are willing to be defined by what is important in a knife.

I like the spydy round hole ,it was very inovative when it came out and really identifies the knife as a spydy. I have know idea why the let Benchmade use it but so long as it is legit I have no problem.

What has any of this got to do with this thread ? There is always someone trying to stir the pot ! :jerkit:
