Well, I got a call last night around 8:30 from my good friend Jason who is in town from Detroit visiting with his family for father's day. This guy and I have been through and into just about everything since we were 12 years old. We played sports together, we hung out together, we even married our highschool sweethearts (matter of fact, my wife dated this guy before she dated me!). Once we went off to college, we went our separate ways with more than 5 good hours of drive time between us. However, we always stayed in touch when we could via e-mail and visiting when we were both home for some holiday. To this day, we converse with one another a couple times a week and always find time to hang out when he comes home. Brothers from other mothers. :D

So, I get the very, very intoxicated call last night.
"Hey...hey, hey...whachadoin'?"
"Nothin', dude. Just watchin' TV."
"Hey...is Brenna (my wife) around there with you?"
"<rolling my eyes>..um, yeah."
"Don't say nothin'!! Sam (his wife) wantz to tell her!"
"Tell her what?"
"Oh...dude..dude we came home to tell everyone that we're knocked up, preggers, having a kid...or whatever....Here's Sam."

:D I didn't even have time to react. He just hands the phone off to Sam so that I can hand her off to my wife. Typical Jason.

At any rate, this is huge and blessed news. Sam has always been told that her reproductive system is on borrowed time. She was having problems with it even back in high school. The doctor told her that she would probably need to have a child by 27 or so. She turned 28 in October. From what I understand, Sam's probably 3 months along since they wanted to make sure they passed through the first trimester without anything happening to the baby before they told every one....which was really smart.

I should have seen the writing on the wall. About 3 months ago, Sam put Jason and herself on this very strict diet/exercise regimen. Honestly, I thought it was just because Jason (who has always been very trim) had started to get a bit of a belly from sitting at a desk all day:D

So there you have it. My happy news of the day. Being that Jason and his brother BJ (who works for me) are as close as family to me, I'm going to hover over this new little one like a hawk:D I'm already "Uncle Jake" to my Brother-in-law's kid and step kid's, but I'm not that close to them, honestly. Being an only child, this little guy or gal is the first birth to hit really, really close to home for me. My wife wants to have kids by 30, but she's not ready just yet...and neither am I!:D
Now all Sam and Jason need to do is move their butts back home so that their family can help them out with the baby (Their immediate families live literally 3 blocks apart in the same subdivision:eek:)

Any smoke or prayers that you all could spare would be greatly appreciated. This kid's conception is pretty special in and of itself...also, Jason is an incredibly bright and successful IT tech manager for Ford Corporation, but God if he isn't absolutely helpless domestically:D I know he's scared $hitless, but he'll be alright:thumbup:

Happy Father's Day to all you dads!

what a blessing. congratulations.

smoke and prayers for health and happiness to you all.

I still remember the instant of sheer terror when my wife told me she was pregnant with our first child. Most things dim with the passage of time ... but not that.

Congratulations to the happy couple. May the pregnancy be unremarkable and the child all they hope for.

As to the Dad, he will definitely be alright. Eventually. :D

Well, congrats then bro! Maybe that'll light the reproductive fire in y'all too. LOL.

LOL, Andy you have no idea! My wife and I are "OK" with having a kid right now. We would be over-joyed and elated and excited. We're sitting ok financially, we have a very supportive family, we own our own home in a good neighborhood, our house is big enough to raise one child for the first few years before we would have to upgrade. We would just like to wait a "little" longer.

I will say this. The news has spurred my wife from "Ehhhhh...." to "OK, maybe a year to year and a half." She's bound and determined to plan this pregnancy out so that her maternity leave is right before the summer so that she has a good few months to have the baby and get settled being a mama before she has to go back to work:D

Quite honestly, this is one of those experiences that really feels like time pushing me through a threshold. I know LOTS of people my age with kids and multiple kids...and multiple multiple kids. However, my entire friend base is composed of young professional people. The kind that say, "We're going to wait until the time is right." Well, I guess the time is getting to be right. It's an exciting time:D

Good. Now roll up your sleeves and get to work!

Congrats to your "brother" and his wife. Exciting times, indeed.

Before we had children, someone told me that if we waited until we were "ready," we would never have any. Well, we've got four, and I'm still not ready. :D
