I'm guessing that people don't actually hate the Griptilian?

A few years back I had a roomate that was big into knives and loved Benchmade but he trashed the Grip. I see a lot of Grip hate online as well. But after seeing Benchmade do their knife bracket and looking at the poll another forum member did here it seems the Grip has a good many fans. This makes sense considering BM still makes the Grip and has been for some time. :)

I've been thinking about getting a mini-grip for EDC office carry. Right now I have the 940 as my sheeple knife.

I don't hate them. I don't even dislike the scales. They're a great choice for an entry-level knife that's meant to be a working knife. I started my BM journey with mini-Grips. My only issue is that the minis are too small for my hands now and I have other options that I prefer over the large ones. They are still outstanding entry-level knives fr those wanting to try BM and the AXIS lock on a knife that'll be a user.

IMO Ritter Mini > Mini-Grip > Grip. I'd say it did well because it's their most recognizable knife today, and it's found in many sporting good stores. At the old retail prices, I'd probably have gotten a full size for the hell of it, but now? Hell no.

If you need a mini-grip, PM me.

I've been thinking about buying a custom Grip (on BM's site) or something like the REI G-10 version for EDC (blue jeans) and a mini grip for office EDC (khakis). I like the larger grip because it's a big knife but doesn't look as mean as my 950 Rift. But on the other hand I'm also wanting a Contego. I think I just wanna buy new knives. haha

Shot you a pm.

My first Benchmade was a full size Grip. After that bought a mini-grip and 705 Sequel. The size of the regular grip is perfect for me, but just didn't really like the hollow "clank" when closing it which I am guessing is due to the partial liners. The mini-grip doesn't suffer from that at all since it has full liners. The mini-grip is a bit on the small size for me but still love it. I had a pair of custom scales made for my regular grip by Keyman, and that has transformed the knife to being perfect now. Nice solid feel and a good positive sound when closing.

Really like the griptillian. Would rather have alot of other benchmade offerings instead but great knife at good price.

The Grips are BM's best sellers bar none. I really like the mini grip myself. The Large not so much, but the G10 large versions are a whole new ballgame and I do like those.

A lot more people like them than the other way around. Its their entry level knife and I imagine that some enhusiasts are just getting snotty but they are perfectly good knives. I dont get the bashing, they dont have to be your favorite but there is no denying that they are excellent performers. Strong knives and are underrated slicers. Just not fancy enough which is a problem to some.

I have the regular grip and the mini grip and like them both.

It seems to me that most of the negative comments I read are about the regular grip. Most complaints are about the "cheep" feeling handles.

I don't find the handle cheep feeling at all, and further more I actually like the thwack the regular grip makes when I close it.

Just different strokes for different folks I guess.

True, I see this as the main complaint (Plastic feeling cheap on large only). I said in my post that I dont like the large as much but that is simply because I prefer the mini over it. For me, I just feel that there are other options the size of the large Grip that has thinner handles (for the pocket) but there is nothing wrong with the large at all. Polymer handled guns and knives are used in wars throughout the world, though not FANCY, it gets the job done and is good enough for me.

My first Benchmade was a classic Grip, that I got myself as a gift last Christmas. I really like the size and blade shape, and it quickly became my new favorite.

Around two weeks ago, I just picked up my first high end folder (Or what I would consider high end) A Grn/Blk G10 special edition Grip. It has everything I love about the classic grip., but with upgraded steel and handle scales that don't remind me of a PEZ dispenser :D

While I would like to see a Ritter Grip/mini Grip with something other than the stock scales on it, I think the Grip is a fine knife. No complaints here.

I didn't like the full-size much but the mini Grip is a favorite of mine. Its hollow grind is deep and the knife cuts as well as any. I could see the handle being small for some. Fits me well.

If the Grip is popular enough for BM to offer custom builds, they are very popular.. I currently have 4 MG's, including an M4 version, and am not done adding to the group :D

I do wish BM would offer the full size Grip with full liners. It's really not going to add that much weight... In all fairness, I have never owned a full size. I checked one out at a local store a few years back, but it just didn't have the same feel as the MG. But, I have been using MG's since they first came out, quite a few years ago...
Perhaps I just need to get one, and give it an honest try.

I've read the same thing. I am 6'2" and 220, and have big hands, and have never found the mini to small.

Also have big hands and don't find mini grip handle too small. Can get about 3 1/4 fingers on it and can get secure grasp.

It's the plastic handle I object to. The REI version with G-10 is a bit rich for what you get.
