What's up everyone. I'm new to the knife world and I really wanted to get this off my chest.

My name is Isaac and I think Im a knife-a-holic

It all started when i bought my wife a cheap coast folder at home depot as a tool to keep in her purse. Well I run at night almost every night and I decided to carry that knife with me while I was running one night because i've run into some cooks before on my night runs (I'd run during the day but you know, kids work, ect...). Here in Cali its very difficult to get a CCW permit to carry a fire arm when, so I decided after running that night that running with a blade (blade runner???) on me was the next best thing for self defense in case i come across another wacko on a night run. Bought my self a cheap gerber from home depot because at the time I didn't know jack shit about knives. After dealing with that thing and finding out it was a real POS I started to do some research on youtube and forums like this. That is where i first came across the world of quality knives and I was instantly drawn to the strider design because it looked to be super comfy for the hand and also like it was durable. That is where I went wrong and bought a knock off strider. Actually, I bought two knockoff striders. They are chinese closes that are supposedly made out of titanium and D2 steel. Well, after I got them in hand and figured out I really liked them I did some more research. That is when I found out that Strider is based in the same city that I work in and i felt super shitty and shameful for buying a knockoff product from china that was originally made and designed by a guy local to me.

I'm now not sure what exactly to do with these knives that I purchased and even contemplate just tossing them in the trash can. One thing that came to my mind is actually giving them to someone that doesn't know much about knives to get them interested in good knives. These cheap knives actually sparked an interest for me in good knives and I'm now proud to say that I have purchased many great knives such as lionsteel, brous, mcusta, and of course ZT. I'm still very much wanting a strider, but I'm waiting for a strider starlingear colab to come across my path.

So, there it is. My story and my crime. I feel shame and remorse for purchasing those knock off knives and now I'm just not sure what to do with them.

peace!

Guilty!? One year of hard labor in the People's Potato Fields of Right Thought will straighten you out! :grumpy:

I too have had a run in with cooks late at night, always chasing me down, trying to get me to try a new bisque or fillet of what-have-you. I tend to find that if you stop running and start talking about the great culinary arts of the golden arches, they start to back off.

Seriously though welcome to the addiction. Always nice to see a new face especially another californian.

Hang on to em. As the sickness worsens and the obsession grows you'll be glad you did.

Tell me about the concealed carry permit... In Jersey it's plain impossible to obtain. I thought Cali was easy to get an open carry permit though - no?

Cheap Chinese knives may have no collector value, but if you're anything like me, the "unwanted" knives tend to be the first to be grabbed for general household cutting tasks. The three or four knives I use the most between home and work are all Chinese, sub-$10 and beat to hell, but they do what I need. For that matter, my EDC knives sort of sit on the sideline (in my pocket) more often than not.

In other words, don't throw them away. Use them. Most of the knife-buying public is using Chinese knives for anything and everything, knockoffs or not.

I've talked to some sheriffs and they said if you apply for one for SD purpouses that you are not going to get one. That may just be specific to the county I live in though. Since the begining of 2012 it is illegal to open carry a fire arm in public, the sheeple voted that away; but one never needed a permit to open carry though. You do need to get a handgun safety certificate to be able to purchase handguns here. Not sure if that permit goes for everywhere, i spend ll my money on knives that until i get a good job im not going to be able to buy a gun :(.

Welcome to the addiction. Mine started when I was little, I'd say oh 15 years ago about now when my gramps gave me his old Victorinox. That knife now sits on a shelf, but I carry my Kershaw's my Benchmades my CRKT's and even (oh heaven forbid I say it) A Camillus EDC3 I picked up last week. Started with 1, now its up over 50. (Of course I've given a few away (Which I regret now, Buck Vantage Force Pro, CRKT Ripple, Buck Rush, CRKT M60, CRKT Hammond Cruiser, and even my Ontario MKIII that I loved so much) The buddies never seemed to appreciate them like I did and now they're either broken or lost.) But anyway pardon my rambling. Welcome to the addiction, it costs a pretty penny, but ahh the things we do for the things we love. Always be sure to hang on to the El Cheapo knives, you'll look back one day and smile. I know I do.
