I'm an avid camper and hiker and major knife lover. I have the Izula and the RC4. I can't use the word need but I want to purchase another Rat in the very near future. I'm on the fence with an RC5 and RC6 and I need someone to give me a good opinion to create the tipping point. BTW I eventually, when finances allow, plan to have both 5 and 6 but just one for now.

Thanks

Well, neither one is much of a chopper but they both do about the same in that area as far as I can tell.

The 6 is a really good slicer with much thinner steel and edge geometry.

The 5 is an unbreakable beast with it's 1/4 inch stock and saber grind.

Both take a good keen working edge with the 5 keeping it a bit longer but not being as sharp to begin with as the 6.

It's kind of personal opinion.

I would take the 5 just because I think it looks so much more badass if that means anything to you. :D

The RC-5 is one hunk of a knife! It's built like a tank. When you hold it, you KNOW that you have a serious cutting tool in your hand.

Go with the 6. Six is an even number and it is bigger than five.

I'm in the same boat; I've got an RC4 and an Izula and I certainly don't need another knife but I really want another RAT. I'd got with the RC6 b/c the RC5 and the RC4 have more overlap as far as the size goes...and my RC4 is my favorite knife.

Thus, the RC6 seems large enough to put it in another "class", so to say. Maybe the "RCTAK" will be out by the time I pull the trigger on a new RAT.

I got the RC-5 as I needed a good all around knife for hunting/camping. It's great. The sabre grind, the bow drill divot, the thicker spine, and the glass breaker thingy on the end are all awesome. I love the sheath too.

The RC-6 is cool too, but rather than get something that's similar and only an inch bigger, I'm going to wait and see what RAT comes up with later this year. Rumor has it that they are whipping up a 'chopper'.

Yeah you're right the way it looks is a big part of the love of knives and the 5 is, not only a great knife, but looks kickass. I'm tippin to the 5 but I know that once it's mine the 6 will start calling.

Thanks for much appreciated replies. Sometimes you just need to get more input.

I prefer the RC6 over my RC5 ,I love both knives but I have been using the RC6 more, lighter,Faster in hand useage,RC6 Edge is more useable in an outdoor scenario to me that the RC5's Saber grind.... The RC5 is a hacking chopping Beast & that is why it is in my Truck B.O.B.

RC5 or RC6 ? Hmmm....thats like having a beautiful blonde with a thick backside or a tall elegant brunette, both of them feel great in your hands and make you real happy. You have to pick which one you want to get dirty :)

What a great predicament to be into.

Ok, cute blonde, thick butt= RC5, tall elegant brunette = RC6, hmmmmmm. I'm still thinkin Blonde RC5 and RC6 later. I'm just a thick butt kinda guy.
