My friend Carl H. and are part of a team that heads up Church activities for the guys here in my College group. We have gotten permission to do a Church Sponcered campout for the guys come May 30th and 31st.

Right now we are planning on going to Willow Park out side Lehi Utah on the north side of Utah lake. It's the same place I was going to go camping a few weekends ago, but the trip got cancelled. This Church trip is a go. I've even got a budget and support of the leaders. Though there are no girls allowed.

Friday we plan on car pooling to the site, setting up camp and enjoying some outdoor activities while dinner is being made. Dinner will be either BBQ'd chicken and hamburgers (for those that don't do chicken), Tossed green Salad, rolls, Potatoe salad and other fun stuff. Dutch Oven cobblers for desert. Then there will be a short Devotional dealing with Service because thats my groups focas. Then after it's do what you want till 10pm when it's "Quiet time" campsite rules. Breakfast and Lunches saturday will most likely be fend for your self.

Pretty much this is a Bonding experience for the men in our church group and a way to learn about service in the comunity. I'm also looking into the posibility to do a Service project at the lake. Of course going to the lake depends on the group size. If we have 20 to 25 people we will do the lake, if it's a bigger group of guys, we will head to the Bear Canyon Campgroup by the Nebo trail head. They have some Large group site for a good price. If we are up Nebo I'll talk to the forest service about a small service project. :)

I've also thought about doing Dutch Oven BBQ chicken. My recipe calls for Chicken breasts or thighs and legs, Carrots, potatoes and onion. You place all that in a dutch oven smothered in BBQ sause. Cook till the chicken is done and the veggies are where you want them.

Just thought I'd bounce Ideas off you guys and let you know some of the fun stuff I'm doing this summer.

sounds like a fathers and sons outing to me. right time of year. i would say the utes probably, the bitter enemies of the Y.

cook up some funeral potatoes to

love those canyons of the wasatch.

ryan

enjoy deseret.sounds like a great time.

Ryan, it kind of is like a Father and sons outing, but we are all college students. LOL! Made some Dutch oven BBQ'd chicken last night for dinner. Some friends sampled it and now they want me to make it for the activity..

I just got a Utah fishing licence. When my next unemployment insurence payment comes, I'll get some fishing gear. Figure if I'm going to spend a bunch of time at the lake I should get me some fish. :)

Heber, havent fished the northern areas but down at fish lake, posie, pine lake and the severe river has some pleasant fly fishing. this sounds like a good opportunity for you to do some survival fishing. i learned a great trick at a mountain man rendezvous for the scouts last year and have found i need really nothing else; take a stick no more than 3 or 4 feet long with a branch fork in it and cut it back to where you can set line in the crook and on the end of the line place a piece of something that floats to act as a bobber. tie the hook to the desired lenght past that. then wind the string around an empty pop can. hold the can in your left hand and the pole in your right. while casting allow the line to play off of the can. now set the pole down and just use the can to reel back in.i was amazed at how far and accurately you could cast. works very well.

as far as the dutch ovens make sure you learn how to make cobbler and good luck out there.

Ryan, cobbler is something I have down pat. :) Last night a friend and I did an experimentl Cobbler with no sugar and whole wheat. It worked out great. We used fruit juices to sweeten the Strawberries, Rasberries and Blackberries. Good stuff, had some room mates try it and they liked it also.

Tomorrow I'm heading to Utah lake to check it out and go camping and fishing. Can't bring the church group to a place with out trying out first. ;) I've wanted to go to Fish lake, it's closer to Ephraim which is where I'm from.

One of these days I'll try that primitive pole, sounds cool. But tomorrow I'll be using my brother gear.
