I’m home once again from the hospital and the second surgery on the same place in my neck. My Dr. seemed well pleased with the results of the CT Scan I had yesterday. He brought it to my room shortly after noon today and showed us what was going on.
Everything is back in place and hopefully this time it will take and heal correctly. My Dr. put in a new piece of hardware and said it tightened up really well so he didn’t have to go through the back of my neck right now although we may have to later on if my fingers don’t get all of their feeling back.
I can already tell they are better than they were before surgery as I can feel the keyboard keys better and when I went to buckle up my seat belt for the ride home I didn’t have to fumble with trying to find the slot the key end goes into.
Also my Dr. said to be very careful with my neck and how far I let my head droop forward, turn side to side, no more than 45* and how far I let it lean back if I was sleeping or trying to look upwards.
And even though I’m allowed too sleep without my brace it might do and heal better if I sleep with it on.
I have managed the last two nights at the hospital because I am somewhat paranoid right now and want to do all I can to get it too heal correctly because of several reasons, not withstanding having to undergo another surgery.
My neurosurgeon also said if I had to have another surgery there because it doesn’t heal right that the next time I will have to be in one of those HALO devices and I sure don’t want that!!!! He also says that it is more dangerous to go in the back side because the neck vertebrate being as small as they are compared to the thoracic and lumbar parts of the spine there is a danger of the screws running out the sides and compressing nerves and the only thing to do in that case was to go back in and reset the screws again. I don’t see how it would be with the nerve monitoring equipment that is now used by most neurosurgeons to help keep from damaging any nerves in the spine but he knows best.
I’m doing really well and I’m ready to go for a walk at the zoo tomorrow and we may just do that if it’s cool enough so that I don’t get so hot while walking. I walked the full length of the hall in the hospital twice both ways both yesterday and today.
I surprised all of the nurses being able to do so as quickly as I did. I’m just a tough old bird.;) :o :D

Thank you all each and everyone for all the Smoke, Prayers, Ringing Bells, and Positive Thoughts!!!!!!!  :D

That's some good news, Mr. Yvsa! Glad you're home again. Best wishes for a speedy and lasting recovery. That "tough old bird" attitude you have will go a long way toward healing you up. Take care!

I heard that they kicked Yvsa out of the hospital because he was too crabby for the doctors and too pretty for the nurses--they kept on crowding his room.

justarumor.

Welcome home, Bud.

The karate chops to the neck have GOT to stop, man! Get a bodyguard, or something.

Heal quickly, sir.

Dang glad to hear you're home and doing pretty well. Hang in there.

Your spirit and good humor in the face of this serious problem helps keep me and my minor problems in perspective! I hope that you have a full recovery and don't have to do that Halo thing (although it would be a handy accessory to a tinfoil hat).

Thanks Guys!!!! :D I'm really paranoid after having this surgery and I'm being very careful with what I do and how I move my head. And even at that my neurosurgeon told us that he may have to go in through the back of my neck at a later date if the feeling doesn't all come back in my fingers and I'm sure going to do my part to help prevent that! :(
I made an appointment to go back and see him in three weeks, which is three or four weeks sooner than he usually sees me after surgery and I'll probably have to have another CT scan because of my thick neck.

Shann I never thought about the HALO device being conducive to forming a tinfoil hat but it sure would ainnit!?!? :D
And speaking of the HALO device now you've got me wondering what kind of steel it is made from and I'm leaning very heavily towards a cheap surgical stainless steel.:grumpy:
A very nice Damasteel or D2 HALO would be fitting for an old knife knut like me.  It would also have to be a forged unit because trying to do one with the stock removal process would take a very, very, long time and be expensive as all billy hell too boot because of the size of the solid piece of material it would take to grind the device from!
Then there would still be the hardening process, I wonder if Paul Bos could do something like this? How about a cyro finish to insure its temper being the strongest it could be? ;) :D

Heck, never mind tin-foil, you could rig a proper Faraday Cage around one of those halo thingies...;)

As cool as a Damasteel HALO would be, I think I'd rather see Yvsa ... without it. :)

Play it cool, play it careful. And get the feeling back in those flying fingers! :D

It's good to see you still typing and with a sense of humor to boot.

If it was me I'd go with titanium.:D

Stay careful and get better.

Best thoughts and prayers from the west coast.
