Whats the outcome of the onion burger thing. Is the onion for flavor only or do you eat it together? Looks great and im interested in how it tastes. Thanks

I love that pic of the hamburger in the onion, I thought of that as the pic was loading (stealing wireless til tuesday) and was delighted/hungry to see it. :)

I've never seen hamburger cooked like that before. Very neat. I must share that idea with a few friends of mine.

I've been pressure canning meat for about a year. Sweet hobby. Just keep an eye on your local supermarket's meat section. You can catch rump or chuck roasts at sweetheart deals. Bring it home and sear it with a little veg oil in a dutch oven. Hopefully you have a grill hood with an exhaust sucker. I don't. Lots of open windows and doors but it's well worth it as searing is a critical part of this process. Once seared on all sides, I cut it into "cannable" strips and pressure can it in accordance with the instructions that came with my canner. I use organic beef broth as jar filler. No added salt, no msg, no chemicals, just slow cooked broth. Expensive but if you pack a lot of beef into the jar a little broth goes a long ways. A few scoops of celtic sea salt and I'm ready to can.

These pint size jewels come in so handy. You can make a pot of rice and heat up this meat to pour over top. Yum! It's what we had for lunch today. The meat was canned last year! On a bargain! Ye haw! I've heard the "old folks" call this stuff cold packed beef. Great stuff. You can take it camping too. Add some worchestire sauce when you heat it up. Yummmy!

I really like the Onion Burger idea, and look forward to trying it myself.

I love this Forum, good people sharing good idea's for the good of all.

Thanks!

Dang, now I'm getting hungry!

Yum. I might have something to post in here next weekend. We'll see...

The onion burger looks good. I'm interested in more info on that as well.

The onion that is removed from the middle to allow room for the meat can be diced up and mixed in with the burger, but it's really just a way to cook hamburger in the coals. The same trick can be used with an orange:thumbup: You can also cook an egg in this fashion using an orange by cutting a hole at the top of the orange and hollowing out the fruit (eating it) then pouring your egg into the hollowed out orange and placing into the coals:thumbup:

Protourist. I see that Sierra Nevada u got there? Where u from. Im proud to say that beer is only brewed in my home town of Chico CA. Our beer is everywhere and i mean everywhere. While in Europe i even saw the pale ale for about 10 bucks a bottle.

I grew up in SoCal but I now live in Oregon. Sierra Nevada is one of the few things I like about California. I had some in Pennsylvania a couple of days ago.
