You ever get that way? Made knives for about 25 years now and lately I can't seem to do anything right....sloppy grinds that take forever to straighten out, problems with side to side symmetry...its enough to make me quit. My name ain't Loveless or Herron but I make a pretty decent knife....just not this week!

Anything I can blame this on, besides myself, so I can feel better about myself? I guess I can just walk away from the grinder for a week or so and start all over...probably the best thing to do.

Sorry for the rant...Happy Memorial Day

Blame it on me... I look like it should be my fault - ask anyone that's seen me (right, Mr. Spangler?:D)!

There are few things as frustrating as now being able to get into the swing of things... only thing that seems to work for me is to avoid it, as trying to force my way through just serves to make it worse.

Hope you dig out of it!

it happens sometimes. if i get to a point where things arent going right i'll take a little break then come back. sometimes having a lot on your mind doesnt help which seems to be my problem on occasion. try grinding in short spurts and see how that works instead of spending a long time at it.

Yeah...Matts to blame for sure. I can just see that goofy "who me?" look on his face too.;)

When I get funny bumps in my bevel line, it is time to change the ceramic platen liner. It takes a while, but even those things get worn.

light beer for sure.

other than that what I've done is put away the knives I'm working on for a bit and do something dramatically different- that's actually what sold me on convex grinds, and the convex chisel edges I'm working on, which have ended up so far cutting really well.

Pick something you've never done and give the brain something to chew on- and "sweep the shop" as Mr. Fogg would say.

Yep a couple weeks ago I must have had my head up my hind end. I had some big oopsies.

The number one thing that always helps me is getting some new cool tools to try out. This always gets me excited and gets the fire in me to work harder. I also like to try and strech myself out and do new things. Another thing I do is think about things I want to buy that I cant afford, this helps me to get focused. Finally if all else fails I talk my wife into having coctails and a bonfire and forget about it.

I have never tried the blaming Matt thing but will keep it in mind.

Thanks for all the suggestions...very much appreciated. And a big thank you to Matt for taking one for the team...I feel better now!
Just have to walk away from the grinder every now and then...this week (with a super sized bunch of crap at work) has not been a week to be in the shop. Oh well...we got the Blade Show Friday right? Lookin better every minute.
