Im in SF for a few days, any intresting places to visit apart from the well known sites?

You could hike Mt. Tamalpais, there is also a place that a lot of hang gliders take off in or just South of S.F. that you used to be able to walk around the old gun implacements, indoor kart racing in Burlingame, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is really worth visiting (but a little far).

There is another thread here somewhere. Lombard Street, the Wharf for seafood, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Presidio, take a ride on a trolly car, etc. There is a knife store down on the waterfront somewhere. I've only been there once for three days. Not much desire to go back but it is pretty cool once. Enjoy your stay.

I avoid San Fransicko every chance I get, but I can recommend The Exploratorium. If you like to mess with things it's great. I believe that it's intended for kids, but my wife and I
spent several hours there and really enjoyed it. That was a long time ago. I'm sure that they have added a lot of stuff.

There is also the cable car museum. It's not only a museum, but you can actually see the inner workings and hidden mechanisms of the cable car system.

The other thing is California is huge. Do not think that because you have been to L.A. and/or San Francisco you know California. I live 5 1/2 hours north of S.F. and I am still around an hour from the border of Oregon.

Sorry to veer from the subject, but it does bug me when people say they know California and then it turns out they spent two weeks in L.A.. it it like saying you know Vermont because you spent time in North Carolina

Come to Fresno bro. 559-375-4408.

OK. Here's a list of things you can do that most people in SF never do, and tourists don't know.

1. Go to Muir Woods. It's better than Mt Tam, especially now. Go early, take your camera, watch the fog roll out of the trees. Life changing...http://www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htm

2. Go visit the Hiller Museum. The best small museum on helocopters ever. Often has unusual aircraft visiting. http://www.hiller.org/
Last time I went they had over 30 Russian aircraft on display.

3. Go up to the Legion of Honor. http://legionofhonor.famsf.org/
The inside in very good if you like art, but the outside is more important if you like history. Walk along the old gun emplacemants that once housed the big guns guarding the GoldenGate. If you walk out on the golf course you can watch the surfers at Land's End trying to keep from killing themselves. (Go out to the point and look straight down)

4. Go to K&L on 4th Street. Absolutely the best wine shop in town. Also has hundreds of very rare whiskies. Buy something that they only made 100 bottles of.

5. Eat at the Cliff House. Lifetime experience. Spend the bucks Time it to be around sundown. http://www.cliffhouse.com/

That's my short list for in town. Do those, and you'll see more of the best the city can offer than most people ever will.

New York Mets are in town. You cant go wrong going to a baseball game that is if you love the the game like I do.

I second this.

Welcome to my neck of the woods!

In SF, you should visit TAD Gear and the Spy Store. -But you may have access to cooler stuff than what's for sale.

If you're here with someone special, you should visit Napa or Sonoma and do some wine tasting. They are about 2 hours north of San Francisco.

If you can, visit Big Basin Redwoods State Park south of SF and halfway to Silicon Valley. They have trail loops which can take 1 hour, 1/2 day. If you like looking at big trees, the Father of The Forest is over 2000 years old and stands around 329 ft tall.

If you have a day to spend, visit Silicon Valley which is 1 -1.5 hours south of SF, and see where a good part of the world's technology originates from. Drive south on HWy101 0r FWY280 to San Mateo where Facebook is, then you can take a whirl around Stanford University and shop at the Stanford Shopping Mall down the road. Hewlett-Packard HQ is also located nearby.

Then head south to visit Apple Inc. HQ in Cupertino, they have an Apple store which sells more Apple gear than technology (just look for the tourists having their pictures taken in front of the signs). Next would be Mountain View with Google HQ and YouTube. Then head to San Jose where Intel HQ is and has a museum, there's also the Tech Museum in San Jose, as well as the Rosicrucian Museum, which has the largest private collection of mummies in the world. You can also visit the Winchester Mystery House for the tour (it's OK), but the see the gun museum which is spectacular. Finish your San Jose visit by crossing the street to Santana Row, which is the hang-out place in Silicon Valley. -maybe place an order for a Tesla motor car while you're there.

My office is within walking distance to Santana Row, PM me if you want to meet for some drinks if you visit.

As a Bay Area/Silicon Valley native, PM me if you have any questions or special interests you'd like to see.
