I'm interested in learning more about the advantages of carbidized titanium.

Specifically, so I can decide whether I want to ask Ban to make me one.

So, anybody care to enlighten me?

I'll let Ban really get into it, but will throw a little out there. Titanium itself will not hold an edge well. The edge on carbidized titanium is actually just the carbide, with titanium as the support structure. It works like a beaver tooth. Beaver teeth have a hard enamel front and soft back. As the chew the back wears away faster than the front keeping a razor sharp edge on the cutting portion.

This question will be addressed in the upcoming FAQ. I also cover a bit of it on the online interview. But yes, pretty much what Carl said. The softer substrate Titanium will wear away much faster than the harder carbide, thus continually exposing new carbides on the edge. I will also add that it is very low maintenance and easily resharpened.
