Hey everyone,

I was just curious, if a BM is shipped to a state where it is illegal, but disassembled first and shipped in parts... will it infringe on any laws or be seized? I thought that this was a question worth asking, not that I want to try it, but where do they draw the line?

I don't think Balis are illegal to own in any state, they just can't be carried in some. I Benchmade can ship anywhere...but I'm not really sure.

I'm not too sure if all Benchmades can ship anywhere, i.e. autos and bali's. If anyone knows, please comment on whether or not ALL states allow such knives.

Benchmade will not ship Balisongs or Autos lots of places.., and you should consult with Travis Noteboom at Benchmade for your particular circumstances.

Everything seems illagal in California...
That must be the worst state to live in. ;)

BM keeps a list of bali-unfriendly States that they will never ship to directly from the factory. And when you order an auto from BM directly, they'll need proper ID (i.e. Military, LEO, or Paramedic only). BM distributors, however, excercise their own judgement.

But in terms of disassembled parts, I doubt the law will be any less accepting, since you are now trying something, that in the end result, circumvents the law. I know for a fact in NYC, it's illegal to sell or particiate in any transactions that will result in the manufacturing or assembly of an illegal weapon. If you read that with a wider scope, it means you can't ship or sell parts of an illegal knife within the city's boundaries. But there's a distinction here of what is legal to own, but illegal to carry. That rule only applies to something both illegal to own and carry. Not sure what your laws are with regards to this respect, but you should check them out yourself for sure.

I asked Travis if BM would sell just the blades. (To send to Eric). The answer was no. Complete knife, dissambled? No idea, but I doubt it.
