That Ontario makes & has made some friggin AWESOME blades !!! Just sayin'. I own the SP2, SP8, SP10, SP17, SP51, SP53, SP KUKRI. All awesome, hard use blades. Originally.......back in the 1980's.......while serving in the US Army, i broke 3 bayonets, made by Ontario. Was not too impressed by that. Now that i am older & wiser, i think a bad heat treat on that batch caused them to be too brittle. It took me a while to warm back up to the brand. Glad i did. I would literally "trust my life" to any of the ones i have now. I have batoned the snot out of them with zero issues & they hold a wicked sharp edge. Not gonna lie, the factory edges kinda sucked on a few. No issue to me, i have been sharpening knives since i was 10. SP8 is a unique piece. I love it. Very ugly, yet very functional. Saw back REALLY sucked. I used my Dremel tool, sharpened each tooth, then cut notches at an angle across the teeth. That thing works friggin awesome now. VERY sharp & does not plug up nearly as much. 1000% improvement. :D

Ontario SP series are a great value for the money. Made in America...specifically an hour & 1/2 from me. Keep it up Ontario.

Would like to see a full width extended tang series, in 3/16" & 1/4" 5160, in different lengths, for bushcrafting.

Looking at this, I see a great compliment, a criticism we can make a note of to keep improving, and an interesting suggestion. Thank you for all of those, we'll make sure to pass all of them along. Your suggestion for bushcraft knives kind of sounds like our Bushcraft Series, although currently that's just a field knife and a machete.

Our suggestion: keep the SP8 in your trunk (assuming that you're not going to have any legal or safety issues in doing so - we don't know the details about where you live or your trunk). Many of us around the office have made a habit of that, and it's just comforting to know it's back there.

Yup. Compliments all the way. I also own an 18" sawback machete and a 12" machete that i highly modified. I have put those through hell & back, with NO issues. My use, is considered abuse by many. But not by me. I can not tell you how many times I let someone use one of those 2 & they always say the same thing: They have NEVER used a machete that was that sharp. Here is proof that the heat treat is down pat on my 12" machete:

Look closely at the tip. Yet it came back to 100% straight after i finished batoning it through the rest of the way.

Mods to my SP8.

Your knives are at a price point that allows people like me (working man) to use & modify to my liking/use. On the off chance that i did ever break one, no crying from me. Warranties are nice but i think i would just get another as it would most likely be considered abuse (batoning) by OKC. Keep making them in America.

I also have a highly treasured RD6 Signature Series that is 3/8" thick S7 tool steel. That is currently a safe queen at this point in time. That may change.

Man, after reading this it makes me want to order another 12" machete. The one I already have I love. A friend did a full convex on it, put micarta scales on it, and rounded the front half of the spine for draw knife use. I love that thing.
