Brass handle Sportsman

Cleaned it up a bit with an eraser and fine steel wool.

Always nice to see someone issue a bit of TLC.

When I worked on boats we always used bronze wool instead of steel wool. If you see spots of rust come up, give the bronze wool a try.
Maybe bronze is too soft for this application... maybe not.
Just thinking out loud...

Nice job. I have an old early 80's Portland Gerber that is a great knife. I wish I would have kept all my US made Gerbers as I had plenty.

Those early Gerbers were the best ever produced by Gerber. You did a great job on that knife!!:)

I like it much. It's nice to see that the company I work for used to give out knives for 5-yr service anniversaries. Now they have restrictions on what you can bring into work, and I don't know if that one would make the cut.

Pretty Cool. Service award for 5-years with GD
I remember the days when companies offered knives as service award gifts. I got one in the 90's from a company I was with at the time. A Gerber. They put the company logo on the sheath, but not the knife.

Nice job cleaning it up.

I have a Sportsman II that I have carried lot. I have a Sportsman III that is like new and I just bought a Sportsman I. They have really good steel in them but the edge on my II was pretty thick. I thinned the edge and it cuts now.

I have a Sportsman II and a smaller version. The steel is 440C at 57-59. It works OK. They have both held up over time and are well made - but a bit heavy for their size.
