So I just registered and I'm new here, and I would like some recommendations on big knives that doesn't just look nice, but also can be used to cut things. So what am I looking for? Something big. For example I really like the Timber Rattler Western Outlaw Bowie Knife. It looks insane and big. But I want to be able to use it aswell, and with some decent quality. But remember, I'm from Norway and therefore things will seem very overpriced compared to US costs. I use the website www.topsecret.no.

Prize range: 85$ to 170$ (500NOK to 1000NOK) in Norway!
Website: www.topsecret.no
Size: 12" to 16" (30cm to 40cm)
What I prefer: Bowie Knives

Ontario Spec Plus Marine Raider Bowie is available on the site you linked, quite well respected, pretty much bullet-proof and in your size/price range. It'll do some pretty serious work for you.

If you can stretch the budget a little the Kabar/Becker Combat Bowie (otherwise known as the Becker BK-9) is awesome.

Both these Marine/Combat knives looked nice, but I gotta say I'm a big fan of shiny blades. The Timber Rattler knives looks so smooth, but I've heard they're not that good of quality?

There is not much to choose from there, i recommend the Ontario SP-50 for a beefy yet afforable outdoor knife
Have you shopped from lamnia.fi ? they have MANY things and shipping should not be that much

Lamnia prices are pretty good too -- they are quite similar to the U.S prices on a lot of products.

Is there any knife in particular you would recommend from that site?

Hi. I second comments above, in regard to lamnia.fi. So far, I have realised that the variety is impressive. Pricing is fair (definitely higher than Amazon, though). Still, what counter-weighs (IMHO) is the variety. When it comes to the big knife... well, why don't you step into the territory of small machetes too (in the sense of big-ger blades)? You may find surprising potent combined with reasonable pricing. Cheers!

I would use an ESEE Junglas. Great profile, geometry, heat treat, and cutting power. The blade is 3/16th so despite filling a small Jungle-machete role, it actually has a lot of heft. The handle is well designed and the ergos prevent slipping forward and give you a good handhold during centrifugal force and the swing. Comes with a very good sheath. All around package impresses.

Someone else suggested the BK9 which is also a very solid blade. There a multitude of threads here, and a number of people prefer the BK9 to the Junglas, but I'm in the other camp that has both and prefers the Junglas.

Svord Von Tempsky

11 inches, convex ground, swedish L6 tool steel ( supposed to be better in cold due to the nickel IIRC? ). Around $170 American

Browning Crowell Barker Competition certified blade. Around $125 11 inches? 1085 or more likely SK 5 as it was made in Taiwan. Convex ground. Amazing cutter though I don't know about year in, year out durability. The Von Tempsky seems more over built. It cuts pretty well too but needed some thinning out of the convex before it kept up with the Browning

I've changed my mind. I'm considering ordering a knife from outside of Norway. Which sites can u recommend? I have no clue about this stuff.

well, I just checked that lamnia website and the BK9 is in your price range. Check around and you will see, you get a lot of knife for your money.

Knifecenter.com, gpknives.com, extremaddiction.com, lamnia.fi, knifeworks.com.

Do you not fancy something closer to home like the woodjewel wilderness lecuka combo

You live in Norway and you want a big knife? I feel like a Leuku would be perfect in this situation! Embrace your roots!

I have a not-so-secret love affair with Leuku's. I find them absolutely fascinating in both use and history. I would recommend one especially since they were specifically designed for use in the area that you live in. Here is one I would recommend:

Ahti Leuku 14

Ahti makes a phenomenal product that is both beautiful and extremely utilitarian. Once you get used to a Leuku, there really is no other tool on the planet like it. Which is probably why they are so attractive to me.

Thanks! My budget just went up a shit ton. I'm thinking of ordering the Down Under 'The Outback' ASWELL as the 'Ahti Leuku 14' u mentioned!
