I'm looking for a computer shop in New York

Hi all,

A friend of mine is looking to buy a notebook and he's in New York City. He's not really into computers and he asked me if I knew some online stores that have correct prices and service. The fact that I'm in France doesn't help a lot
If you know a real store in New York or a USA based online store that is reliable and fast (meaning they have stock and you don't have to wait 2 months to get your notebook), please let me know. Thank you in advance!

If you're talking New York City, there's some great places to look--Apple stores if you want a Mac, places like RCSexperience(56th and Madison, IIRC), J&R on Park Row(downtown) and the usual CompUSA type stores. Often they have very good deals and a broad selection you can actually touch and play with first before buying.

On line is a little trickier--have you considered Dell or HP? The market is so competitive right now they are always offering great deals, if not the absolute lowest rock bottom price. Plus they're reliable and you know exactly when you'll get it and what level of support you can expect, whereas some other online sellers may tend to be a little optimistic on what they'll offer for support.

I also recommend J&R on Park Row and both HP online and Dell online.
HP online is being pretty aggressive right now; I'd look into them without a doubt.
