I am new to the world of knives, and I am looking to purchase a high quality knife for around 100 dollars. I have looked at many Benchmade models including the TSEK and the 710. I liked the Axis lock and prefer it to the lockback. Those are simply unacceptable. I want a plain blade, no serrations, and no less than 3.9 inches. Folder obviously. And by the way, do not ever respond to proedge84, he is the King of Douchebags.

dude-- thanks for the heads up about proedge84. I have quite a bit of trouble deciding just who to ignore on these forums, yet you sussed it on your very first post. The 710, by the way, is a very non-douchebag sort of knife; it should please you.

Welcome to the Forums!

You certainly can't go wrong with BM 710, many knowledgeable people say it rules.
But why I'm still going with my BM AFCK?

The 710 is an amazing knife. I have the little brother 705, but have handled many a 710 and it feels even better than the 705 for a big knife.

senordeteats,
The only consideration is, how are you at sharpening recruves? That was my only problem with the 710 when I first got it, and that was my problem not the knife's.:)

What about the Al Mar SERE 2000 if you want a tough linerlock or the SOG X-Ray Vision(zytel handles) or Night vision(G10 handles). They have arc-locks which are similar to the axis lock and they have cool tanto blades.

i too like hte 710 although i have only handled them. keep in mind though, it may be bigger than you think it is.

For someone new to the knife world and wants a single "do it all" knife, the Benchmade 710 is a great choice. The only problem I had with mine is that it came to me new, but the edge was really not sharp. I had to sharpen it. Mine is ATS34 and actually sharpened quite easily.

Oh man, thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea...

I have 2 710s and I may just get a third. It's by far the best knife in that size and price range that I have found.

Could you tell us a little bit about this proedge guy. How did you come to your conclusion about him?
