Hello guys.

I just joined the forum and I'm looking for a Schrade Old Timer from around 1960.

It looks like a Sharpfinger, but it is about two to three times as long.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
don

Guys, thank you very much.

Y'all nailed it.
A friends neighbor loaned me one to do some work on a wild hog that I processed. I told the man that I really liked his knife, he said he bought it 46 years ago. I decided that I needed one and just had to figure out what it was. So I used Google to look for a knife forum and found yours.

Now I just have to find a Schrade Old Timer 15OT Deerslayer.
Again thanks for your help and quick response.

These knives can be found day in and day out on eBay, good users for less than fifty with a decent sheath (replacement sheaths are cheap too). The knives are being copied in China now, so watch out for them. Many sellers don't mention where their knives come from. But often the sellers with knives stamped USA will say so. Good luck! These make great pig stickers!

Codger_64, thanks for the link.

I had just ordered one for $21.95
Purchased from:
Instawares, LLC
1305 Chastain Rd
Bldg 100, Ste 500
Kennesaw GA 30144
UNITED STATES
800 892-3622

and one for $23.89 from Dads Knife Shop on PriceGrabber.com

I would like to have an original, but they will be work knives, I really liked the design of the Schrade 15OT. I'll keep y'all informed when these arrive.

Thanks again, don

It's apparant that you've 'settled' for one of the Chinese remakes imported by Taylor Brands. Although this forum is specifically for collectors of original Schrade knives, don't hestitate to post back with a review of your modern 15OT.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

If you have trouble with that Chinese knife, like it breaks or won't hold an edge, don't give up on the pattern.

Find an old one in carbon steel, made in the USA, and it will most likely be the finest knife you have ever carried in the field, unless you are into $300+ custom knives. The real McCoy, made in the USA of carbon steel will stand up to custom knives in performance.

I have gotten a couple of the Chinese copies of Schrades by mistake. Not even close in quality to the American ones.

This is just my opinion. Please let us know how this Chinese knife preforms the next time you butcher a hog.

Dale,
Thanks for the post.
I thought the 15OT had been out of production for a number of years. I thought the two that I ordered would probably be used knives. I had ordered them before I received Codger posts.

I guess I will have to "settle" with what arrives in the mail.

My every day carry and work knife for years is a 6OT. Since I'm on a "forum is specifically for collectors of original Schrade knives", I have a SCM-7 that is still in the original box w/ sheath.

Thanks for all the helpful posts, I'll keep y'all informed when the new knives arrive.

TX,
Probably the easiest way to tell if it is an original Schrade is that it will in most cases, say USA on the the knife.

In any case let us know what you get and how it works for you.
