I'm Looking for the perfect Survival Knife....

So I'm in the market for a good Survival knife. I'm looking for a full tang with no serrations. I am open to all metal types and manufacturers. I would prefer a knife with a tactical look to it though. Something along the lines of a KA-BAR maybe. Price isn't an issue either, but that doesn't mean I want to spend a cool grand for a knife :D.

I was looking at the Gerber LMF II. It looks very nice, but I don't like the serrations at all. I also really loved the sheath. I loved how it came with the built in sharpener. That was almost enough for me to buy it but I read/saw some reviews and they were very poor. She wasn't built to last at all sadly.

so I am open to any and all suggestions. Please post what you feel is the best of the best.

I thank you all ahead of time for your post.

There are so many really good ones that it's hard to narrow the field. Perhaps the first to come to mind is the Fallkniven F1, Usually around a 100 bucks and a real work horse without getting to big and heavy. The Bark River Bravo one would have to be considered as well as Many of the Busse and Swamprat knives.

My favorite in Production knives is the Bog Dog. My favorite overall are several of my JK customs. JK Knives. Check him out on this site

Well those JK customs are just gorgous pieces of metal. Very nice looking but I would never want to use one:D I would keep it on a shelf and display it :D

All of the other knifes you recommended are very nice, a bit plain for me though. I think I am looking for something with a bit of a tactical look/feel.

Fällkniven A1,S1,F1

Rat Cutlery/ESEE RC-4,RC-6

At first I wasn't very impressed, they look nice but didn't have that certain "je ne sais quoi" that I was looking for.... Until I saw the "ESEE Comprehensive Survival Kit w/ RC-6 Knife". The RC-6 alone costs $200, and the whole kit only costs $217. That is almost a deal that you cannot pass up. So far this one has really caught my eye.

I thank you for that recommendation , ty sir.

Hi Xerogabe106 -

How about a JK Survival Kit - this comes with the knife shown (3/16" thickness), and the sheath that is made to hold a Vic Farmer to complete the survival kit.

Stomper also calls this knife his Combat model.

You can get this with black micarta or G10 I believe.

best regards -

To me, a survival knife needs to be able to do it ALL, including chopping, so my favorite out of the ones I own is the Busse NMSFNO:

If you don't want to do so much chopping, but more skinning, then the Busse BATAC is a good choice:

The pics I've got for these knives include my kydex iwb sheaths, but I've also got Spec-Ops sheaths for both of them.

Scrap yard regulator get one while you still can, good price for a sweet piece of steel. Waiting for mine to arrive now :)

Copied from Wikipedia
In November 2000, the black versions of models F1 and S1 were tested and approved for use by air crews in the U.S. Marine and U.S. Navy. They successfully met the requirements for function, design, strength and reliability which the Naval Air Warfare Center required.

As a gift I got an S1 for Valentines day , I cant say enough good things about it , there are nice aftermarket sheaths for it too - excellent knife.

I currently use a CS Recon Scout for the big jobs paired with a F1 for everything else.

If you like tactical, no serrations and tough as nails go with the recon scout.

Just take their marketing with a grain of salt.

I have both the BK-7 and BK-9, both are fine knives. I don't really see the need for a big heavy knife to pack on my person, if I am boat or truck camping, then I might break out a heavy weight. JMO

The thing about the JK knives is that they are tanks and they are meant to be users not eye candy.

There's been some great suggestions, that's for sure. I do like the Falknivens, but for me, my all around "survival" knife is probably my Camillus made Becker BK10 Crewman. I believe Ka-Bar's coming out with their version of it, too, so it should be more readily available & affordable.

Another one I like is my "vehicle knife", an ESEE H.E.S.T. (Originally a RAT HEST). While it's not as large as the other suggestions, I consider it as my "personal size" survival knife.

Well for a tactical looking knife I have a SOG seal pup elite that fits the bill. The steel is pretty good (AUS 8) there are better edge holding steels but for a stainless its pretty good. If you want to go bigger they make some full size bowies that are pretty cool looking as well. ESEE is also worth a good look, especially with their amazing warrenty and be prepared to find 4 or 5 knives you will end up getting haha.
