I'm loving my 50 cent (Thrift shop find) knife!

Hi all,

I realize "it's" just an IN-expensive lil' knife (even when purchased new). I bought a (similar type) 8" O.A.L. (Swedish design...most likely made in China) Colourcut Knife for 50 Cents at the Thrift Shop and.....I'm loving the "handiness" of this small "fixed blade" knife, especially with it's plastic blade only sheath. The THIN blade cuts food beautifully! I'm loving smaller Knives
(7" to 9" O.A.L.) more and more every day. One day, I will have a CUSTOM made knife (perhaps with a lil' bit more blade thickness) for a more "sturdy" knife. Maybe it's because I'm getting older but, I just find "smaller O.A.L." knives easier to work with, easier to pocket and/or Belt carry and as I said, just plain HANDY! In a Nutshell, I'm loving smaller fixed blade knives!

those knives rock if for nothing else than the fact they come with a sheath. One warning, the coating will start to flake and I'm leary of using on food after this starts to happen.

Hi guys,

Yea, 50 cents lol. I couldn't resist. Crom, good point about the coating. I'll keep that in mind. That said, what I really like about this knife, what this knife "teaches" me.....that is to say, I really do NOT need a BIG (or long) and heavy knife. I like a handle at least 3.5" with a blade of about 2.5" to 4.5" length. I'm still however trying to figure out just how much Blade thickness one really needs for both strength and slicing/cutting on a shorter blade knife. I think my Spyderco Para Military 2 is a bit too thick for (every day) "food prep".

HB - I'm with you on the smaller fixed blades for EDC use. My EDC fixed blades are in the 3.5 to 4.5 inch range, the 'bird and trout' andsmall hunters... e.g. Western L28/H28/628, Kabar 1232, 1233, Westcut K knives, etc. You can do any day to day task, aren't as as intimidating to NKPs and don't scream "mall ninja".

I like the big boys as well, but I prefer to use the smaller ones to make my point very quietly that knives are tools.

Hi ZZ,

Yes Sir, there is just "something" neat about smaller fixed blade knives. Right now, I'm on a "thinness/thickness" kick. That is to say, not only am I seeking small fixed blade knives with Blade length in the 2.5" to 4.5" range but, I'm doing my best to try and figure out how much thickness one really needs in an EDC knife. The thickness (or thinness if you will) of the blade on my "50 Cent Thrift Shop" knife is only the thickness of a Penny and cuts beautifully. I find it funny how a 50 Cent knife has changed my entire outlook on future knife purchases. I have a BECKER BK-14 on the way to me from a swap. It could become my WOODS EDC type knife. We shall see. I REALLY want a Canadian #1 Belt Knife (and the list never ends)!
