Hey guys, I saw a 300 blade for sale and I was wondering if there are any Benchmade knives with similar dimensions around the stop pin and pivot, along with enough clearance between blade and backspacer? The 300 is 3.05", I don't think the mini Grips are quite long enough for that, but I have one so I'll investigate further.

I also have a couple of cheap knives by Ganzo and I think I'm going to try adding the 300 blade to them to see if I can come up with functioning frankenknife. I think their knockoff 950 might have enough space in the handle for the 300's belly, which would lose me a little blade length but gain me a much improved blade, and if it works I'll have a Rift Flipper!

A Ript Flifter actually, given the clone chassis.

Wish me luck building my Ript Flifter guys!

There are no photos yet.

I think the most likely handle candidate is going to be that Riftlica though, unless my mini Grip has enough clearance in the handle.

In, just to figure out what the f*** you're talking about.

......ummm and by telling us this, what are you hoping to achieve?

Well in your case nothing.

If any Benchmade fans want to see what kind of bizarre thing comes of the project, this thread will have pics next week.

Honesty NG, I can't see any genuine BM enthusiasts actually wanting to see you hybridizating a genuine BM part with your POS clone counterfeit parts.

But hey I've been wrong before,

We'll let this play oot and see were it gets you.

Should be interesting though.

Kris,

Hi guys,
I have a Benchmade knife that I'm going to take apart and put back together with parts manufactured from ....some other knife company. Doesn't that sound AWESOME !!

I'm so proud of this I thought I would post it on the Benchmade forum which is a place for avid Benchmade afficianados.

Kris,
Wanna trade a good condition Rift handle for 3 pieces of 440C garbage maybe?

Weld 'em together on YouTube and make a paperweight of crap, the frankenflipper will be nicer, and I'll send you Christmas cards.

I'm not about to pop the blade out of a real one for the first time just to see how it goes, but if the fake Rift works I'll try to scout out a used BM with a nice handle and garbage blade for a long-term hybrid.

I'm just geeking out over the idea of an Axis flipper, but the 300 Ball gets room temperature reviews and isn't on my wishlist.

Do you even know WTF your babbling on aboot?

Cause I sure as hell don't

Good luck anyway

Play on!

Kris,

Sorry for the sarcasm NG. Too long in Whine & Cheese. Anyways, this should have been posted in the Maintenance Tinkering and Embellishments sub forum.
A lot of brand specific collectors and users will take issue with your project X and view it as adulterating the knife.
Take that as you may. Future replies to this thread will indicate how well this is received here. Have fun.

Thank you!

I honestly don't see how taking a Chinese knockoff and putting a discarded Benchmade blade in it is adulterating the long-destroyed Benchmade, but I do understand your point.

The 300 blade just came in, and it looks good. Definitely too long for the small Bone Collector I have, and it looks like it won't work for one of the three Chinese host handles I have available. It looks like it could fit my HK Axis relatively well, but I'm not that mechanical and I like my Benchmades the way they come.

The whole point of the project is to see what kind of weird, hopefully practical little monster I can make, not to ruin perfectly good knives.

So it looks like I have a RAT-style 727 handle or a Rift-style 710 handle that might work out. The 727 handle is lighter and more comfortable, so I'll be trying that one first.

The 727 was a no-go, the stop pin is too differently placed and the pivot pin is a hair smaller.

I'm going to skip trying it in the 710, the pins are similarly closer together than the 300 tang is built for.

It didn't work in a G704 either, the pins were too far apart in that case.

How does one come across a 300 blade? Did someone mess up a set of scales that bad?

If it doesn't work out what are your plans then?

Someone bought one for parts and didn't need the blade. I bought it from him via auction.

I'm not sure, making the money (~$40 shipped) back on it would be nice though. I'll probably list it unless there's anyone specifically interested in it for their own 300 or for the same kind of project.

It doesn't fit the HK Axis either. In every case the tang was too long for it to lock up.

If that's the blade I saw on eBay a few days ago I was wondering this exact same thing...
That's the one! The blade looks unsharpened and unused to me, but I've run out of handles to jam it into.

The flipper did work well with all the handles, it's a shame about the vertical flop.
