Got the Helios BG-42 yesterday. Seems pretty nice.

However, the blade swings our real easily. I don't know if means it's "smooth" or "loose". I have a Buck and there is a distinct detent that you have to get past before the blade swings out. With the Boker, I can flick the blade out without even touching the thumb stud.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

No - don't have to touch the blade.

I'm hardly a knife expert, but with a vigorous flick I can get the blade to lock open.

I'm comparing this to a Buck I own - the Mayo Hilo. I can get the blade to open with a good push on the thumb stud and a coordinated follow through.

The Helios is kind of nice - butter smooth. Opens and closes effortlessly. Is this a good or bad thing?

Thanks.

Whether it is a good thing or bad is up to you.
If the lock is secure, and no blade play, I like my blades like that.
It will not adversly effect anything, and part of it is because the
blade has more substantial weight than the handle.

I have a helios of a different blade type and had the cera titan helios in my posession for a couple of weeks. TJT hit the nail on the head in that the blade has more substantial weight than the handle. Hence the overall ease with opening. However, having the blade swing down or fly out simply from touching the thumbstud may just be a little too loose. That is, of course, up to you to decided. I know that the other helios models I have handled were definately smooth all the same. Just another knife with its own feel.

Thanks for the feedback - tjt and pman.

The Helios blade certainly does not fly out, but comapared to my Buck Hilo (I have a very small sample comparison set) it's looser or smoother - depending on how you want to look at it. With the blade open you can see a little play in the blade where it pivots in the handle by moderately pushing on the blade - I can see no play at all with the Buck.

Is there a way to adjust the Helios? Is that bolt-like thing with the six holes in the pivot some sort of adjuster?

Thanks
