I'm not 100% in love with my new Manix.

I've been carrying my new manix 2 LW everyday for about a week now, and although I like the knife a lot, I'm not positive i chose the right knife. I think my biggest doubt is the overall geometry. The handle is quite large and I always have the feeling I would have better blade control with a narrower (by narrow, I mean not so tall) handle. My feeling is that the blade sits in the hand quite comfortably...until its time to actually USE it. Then it's slightly awkward. I also have the feeling that I might have preferred the blade itself to have been a bit narrower (top to bottom). I don't know, it's really difficult to say since I only have the Internet and don't have the chance to handle different knives before I buy. I am going to Orlando next week and plan to try and find some brick and mortar shops ere that carry spyderco. We'll see what I can find.

Ok, y'all don't get carried away with this. I like the knife a lot, and it functions perfectly well. I just have a nagging suspicion that I might have appreciated a pm2 or maybe a caly 3.5 shape more. I welcome any thoughts from those of you who have been lucky enough to have them all.

I got the manix at the same time as a para 2...still have (and love) the para! Just a great knife.

For me it was handle comfort, the jimping on the manix just wasn't for me. That being said, I could see myself checking out the original mini-manix.

Yea the jimping is ultra aggressive and not in an ideal area. My brother had one and I could never really warm up to it. Definitely a solid quality knife but I much prefer my Para 2 in every aspect.

I love the Manix, and the wide blade can be useful for some utility tasks, but for overall "EDC" style use, the Caly is a more appropriate design.

Surfingringo, shoot me an email or PM. I have a few nice spydies laying around I'd be willing to trade you for the Manix.

I have had all 3 the light weight the saber grind s30v and the XL . And I must say I don't like the manix . Why they don't fit my needs and it takes to much pocket . They feel clunky and they are hard to close with one hand . The saber grind feel like you are carring a brick :barf: . Now I must say the ergonomic on the manixs fit the hand perfect just that the blade is to wide and thick for me . The PM2 is the best all around knife IMHO . Slim , light with great ergonomic .

If you are looking for a slimmer blade and handle, take a look at the Ulize. http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=777

The downward cant of blade and handle automatically balances the knife perfectly on the index and middle fingers. The deep hollow grind is razor sharp. The tip is especially thin and sharp.

Thanks esav, I have looked at the ulize and the police and considered both but I keep my key on my large edc, so no lanyard hole is a deal breaker. :-(. Tip down doesn't work either for the same reason, so the military is out too.

I am getting my Pacific Salt next week, so that will help a lot having that "endura" to compare it to. Hell, if I like it and find the serrations functional I might just edc it all the time.

I'll buy it off you if you don't like it, but I suggest you give it another week. It may grow on you.

I know Mr. Surfer isn't into this one because of the reason he articulated, but the Ulize deserves a lot of love that it seems not be getting around here. Specifically as to the "tallness" of the Manix 2 Lightweight (edge to spine dimension), it is a biggy, no doubt. That dimension affects me more when its in the pocket than the hand. In this regard, the Ulize (and its conservative brother the Police 3) are thin in the hand and the pocket, but still plenty hefty and solid for real work. I really like the Ulize, but it just doesn't get much attention. Just my two cents.

God i love the manix! i have the lightweight model and i consider it just a perfect EDC. :)

I hear you man. I like the steel, i like the lock, I like the look, I like the weight...it just doesn't feel just right to me and I'm having a hard time getting over it. I WANT to love it! Im gonna keep trying. We'll see.

I have an older 154 Manix 2. I didn't like it as much when I got it as I thought I would, but I liked it more and more as I carried it. Mine is non-skeletonized and seems a bit heavy, I really like the handle shape, I got used to the lock, it flicks open very fast, I would prefer tip down but I can get along with tip up, but I would much prefer the looks of a FFG blade.

From the photo it seems that the Manix2 needs a slightly longer blade.

Try the para 2, I know the hype adds that cheese factor but it really is an accomplishment in engineering, design and build

Hey Esav, sorry, I already made another thread asking this, but what about that sprint run calypso? Doesn't that look a lot like the police model with a lanyard hole? Just curious since the police was near the top of my list but the lack of lanyard hole was a deal breaker.

I probably would if I could find one right now. :-(. I was cruising bladehq a few days ago and saw them available. ALL combinations! I hovered for a bit but I talked myself out of it. Now that my doubts about the manix have grown a little I'm kicking myself!

Same thing with me and the regular manix 2. I really tried to like it but it always fell short of what I liked.
