but some of your guys avatars are a little risque. My computer is set up in our kitchen for all to see what I'm reading, I have impressionable young children in the house and I'd prefer that they not see some of the pics in the avatars. I know I can shut the avatars off, but I'd prefer not to as I like to use them as "identifiers" for who is posting.

I'd appreciate your consideration on this.

Thanks

:D:D

I think my two girls are pretty, don't you?

randucci: Hmm... sexy steel

I lurk more than I post (clearly), but I must say that some avatars are a bit much. I'm here for the knives, not the hookers.

Hey Bully...

Just curious, do you object to mine? She is holding a pair of 9 1/2" Urgent Furies. :)

EDITED. Why you gotta be that way man?? It was a respectful, rational request, and you come in and insult him?

My opinion:

This is a knife discussion forum for adults, not the Nickelodeon channel. Although I appreciate that the Busse forum can be considered a family forum, there are a lot of other forums on this site.

Several of these forums are clearly not for children, and people post on a wide variety of forums here.

I think it's a little silly for you to request that everyone change their avatars to accommodate you, instead of you disabling the avatars on your computer because you choose to expose your children to your online "surfing".

But, that's just my opinion.

I can honor your request... Mine is a bit risque, if even if from a TV show. I see your valid point and I'll switch it.
Jaxx:cool:

EDITED to add: Same avatar, but now just a headshot, cool? :)

I appreciate your opinion. I disagree with it, but I do appreciate it. I didn't ask that they change their avatars. I asked that they consider changing their avatar. And actually anyone over 13 can join so it is not just for adults.

I honestly have no hard feelings if they choose not to turn them off, but I will ask that they consider that this forum is viewed by a wide range of individuals.

BTW, do you have children? If not your opinion may change greatly when you do, I know mine did. I'd do anything to protect them(and yes, I know I can't protect them from everything) even if that includes making enemies on my favorite knife forum.

Patrick,
I'm sorry I missed your response, I was putting my impressionable girls to bed, I would have liked a change to respond to it. Drop me an email if you'd like to e.isaacson@insightbb.com

Also, thanks to the guys that have (or will) consider my request and have changed theirs

Lil Foo,
Your's doesn't bother me, scare's me a little but doesn't bother me ;)

No I don't have any children, but I have one on the way.

I actually just found out a few days ago.

But when he/she is old enough to decipher pictures on the Internet, it won't matter, because I'll be doing the Internet thing in my office, not in the kitchen.

I don't know maybe you're a saint, but do you never go to sites that are inappropriate for children? Ever?

My chimp has a creepy smile! ;)

Is he smiling because he KNOWS there's a FBMLE on the way?? Maybe, maybe.

Congratulations. Fatherhood is a great honor, responsibility and kids will give you great joy.

I sincerely try not to view any images that are inappropriate for children.

Does mine scare you Eric???

Seriously folks, I am sure Eric is not singular in his opinion about the avatars here. To me, just as the avatars are not a big deal, maybe changing an avatar to something...more suitable... for a youngster who might catch a glimpse is absolutely NO BIG DEAL.

We can debate the merits of both sides of the argument until the cows come home. But in my eyes, a simple, easy request to accommodate someone who has (more times than you will ever be able to count) accommodated people here on this forum, well, to me, it's a no brainer.

Eric, thanks for speaking up. Without someone saying something, I am just slow enough that I likely never would have thought of it. Thakns...

Oh......don't get all upset......I was just giving the guy greif!!!!!

Let's be grown ups here......I can give and take a hard time...as all people over 14 should be able.

If its not appreciated here in the way I give it, I will stop. I don't mean this in a bad manner, but this is not a surgical ward where everything is serious!!

ETA: I have 5 and a one year old boys. I can click the "X" pretty quick if need be!

Patrick,
Don't worry, I can take any heat or hard time someone wants to give me. I've been a moderator on a number of forums for about 6-7 years, I don't take much of this too seriously.

Feel free to send it to me in an email, maybe I'll agree with you ;) I assume by your last post that you earlier one was a joke. I like a good joke, especially if I am the butt of it ;)

:D:D

I agree that these images ought not be shown to young children.
These pictures can cause problems and embarrassing situations for the other members:

Forexample, my mother-in-law walks in the room and sees me surfing the net and notices dancing glands!

Or the effect it has on my young son. He is three months old and my wife breast feeds him:) . But if I am holding him and he sees these avatars, he gets very hungry before his feeding time:grumpy: . Now I have a hungry, crying baby who got his hopes up from an inappropriate image...

Seriously, I think that it is a good idea only to post things that are appropriate for our younger members and sensitive to the older members sensitivities.

I know its a free country and we don't have to view a thread like the one that was deleted. But, if people keep posting images that might keep some members from enjoying the forum, some members may choose to go elsewhere.

This is the internet, and I did not come to Bladeforums to see sexy girls. I didn't mind accidentally seeing them, but... point is there are plenty of places to go on the internet to see such things if one desires, I just don't consider this one of those places.

Post them, don't post them... It's up to you. Just think about the children:D

If you do decide to post things that some people may find questionable, it would be polite to have a warning on the thread (possible suggestion for the mods).

I would hate to pay $3.99 a minute to see peoples avatars.;)
