I'm not having much luck with my Umnumzaan.

I seem to be having a run of bad knife luck these days :grumpy:. I bent the clip on my Umnumzaan not so long ago and now I have had a short meeting with a tiled floor and the point of my knife. But, once again there is a positive note to this.
The clip was able to be bent back easily with out snaping and the newly damaged point point was able to be sharpened back in about half an hour by hand. This is thanks the the swedge allowing for material to be removed from both sides with out having to reprofile the spine or sharpen out the ding on the primary edge alone. :)

Here are a couple of before and after pics.........

Sorry to hear about that but one good thing about the umnumzaan is that it always comes back for more. I have banged up and chipped my blade more times then I care to remember just by using it like I hate it and it always sharpens rite up and come back for more.

i would say the opposite! you r having good luck with your umnum! Could other knives come back to life like that so easily?! I dont think so

Aye, I suppose my run of "luck" is a good example of just how useable the Umnumzaan is. It doesn't seem to matter what you do to that knife it's easily fixable, with in reason of course.

Looks great Haze1

What media did you use to do the grinding?

I used DMT diamons stones, I started with the corse one to remove the steel. I then went down through the grits to clean it up and finished with a fine ceramic stone and a quick strop. I don't like using the sharpening sytems so I just use them free hand.

Did you drop it on tile while it was open or closed, just wondering.

The knife was open. It slipped from a chopping board that was in my lap and landed perfectly on the point. It did chip the tile if that's any consolation. :p

No, it was genuinely accidental, I promise. :p
