I'm enjoying this forum a lot as I've just recently got back into the beauty of slipjoints. The problem is that I'm not used to all of the shapes, patterns, sizes and terminology. I'm a fast learner, but can anyone post a link or two to show me the differences in pictures? I've been checking out many of the dealer sites to see pics and figure out what's what, but is there a comprehensive site that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark posted the most important pages already, besides this one of course.
But when I came here, I spend a lot of time lookin' at these pattern pictures at ShepherdHills .

There's also a lot of good information with pictures in Bernard Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, 4th Edition. (No, the 5th Edition is not better, it was revised poorly and without Mr. Levine's input.) Unfortunately, the 4th Edition is out of print and hard to find.

Thanks everybody. I'll check out those links pronto. I'll also see if I can track down that book. I've got a buddy in the used book field that may give me some ideas where to look. I really appreciate the help.

Blades reprint of Bernard Levines guide is nowhere nice as his (I've had the pleasure of seeing a couple copies, and reading a little out of one), but it is better than nothing, and a good read. In depth section covering slipjoints, and all of the patterns. Check out a used book store for a copy. I have seen Bernards last edition of the guide, but for ridiculous amounts in collectibles stores.

:D Stick around for a while, you will know the difference between a damascus reverse peanut with Sambar stag scales, and a swayback jack with fluted bolsters and filed back springs!:D
