I held out as long as I could...

Weird, it looks hollow ground in this pic

I like that the logo's stuck around

I like the grayish look and will keep it like this for a while, it looks almost like damascus. But I may go to a satin finish on it eventually.

I don't think I have a real hatred of coated blades, but I do a lot of food cutting with my knives and it just seems weird using a coated blade for that. Still loving this knife too

Stripped blades seem to work better for me. They move through the media easier, or at least that's what I think. Its subjective. Plus, I hate the way a blade looks when the paint's about used off of them.

That is a great looking knife, I noticed my stripped ESEE's rusted faster with that grey coating thing on them. No worries, the patina looked even better faster, and they held oil better too.

T, great stuff as always, how's the hiking weather there? Just getting up to high humidy here, so, time to sweat my ass off. :D

Weather is heating up, we're getting into the mid to hi 80's this week. I got my Gatorade powder ready :)

I did the same thing. FYI if you media blast the blade prior to putting the patina on, it turns out a lot nicer IMO.

I would have left it in the blasted, satin state that it was in, but it showed every little dirty/oily spot or imperfection...much better now.

My Ritter arrived and I put on a set of micarta scales. The scales needed to be fitted and sanded to the proper contour. I modded my 7 to a drop point and installed a set of micarta scales. The blade color is now a dark parkerized gray. I'm giving my 9 the same treatment, although the blade will be black. My 2 was stripped, satin finished and all my Becker blades were convexed. IMO, the blades look good polished, satin, black or dark gray. There may even be other colors, O.D. or D.T. I can't post pictures yet, the main computer died and I'm at work on their computer.

Hate to seem like such a noob, but how did you do that? I'm considering doing it to my Kabar Warthog.

Best stuff I've found is a spray on epoxy/paint remover, there are many but the one I use is by Jasco from Home Depot. Let it set and the coating scrapes right off. Use gloves, the stuff burns if it gets on you. Then I cleaned it up with some wet/dry sandpaper.

I assume you had to drill out those scales a little for them to fit over the brass inserts ? Or you just removed the brass inserts altogether ? Just wondering cuz I want to replace the handle when mine arrives also.

Looks pretty sweet! by the way.

I left them out. The Micarta weighs more than the grivory, so to me it feels just about the same as it did with the weights in. I like the more neutral feeling, but it still chops pretty decent for a 6" blade.

Looks Bitchin man. I haven't even used mine yet.

Thanks. If I had the dough, I would have bought one to use and one to save. But I've wanted one of these ever since Doug posted a prototype pic many years ago. So I have to use it!

Don't be ashamed. I'm sure you have a heart of gold and are putting yourself through grad school, and putting food on the table for your young child. Your father must be very proud of you.
