I'm now an electrician (think you know where I'm going?)

Actually, I've been working on these sorts of things as long as I can remember. My father is a master electrician, and has been showing me how things are done for a while. The difference between then and now is that I'm now old enough to be legally employed as an electrician.

What better way to celebrate a new job than with a knife?! I'll have my multi-tool and one of several other more dedicated knives on me, but I've been wanting another slip-joint for a while, and I've been having trouble finding an excuse and a pattern. My excuse- I've now got money coming in. My pattern- an electrician's knife of course!

There doesn't seem to be too many out there done by quality manufacturers. The Case ones have been discontinued from what I've seen on the web :( . Could some of yall who are more educated in this field point me in the right direction? I'd like to keep it under $90 (more if I have to, but that's my max target zone). If possible, I'd like to avoid any 420J2. I've managed to get rid of most of my steel snobbery, but I still can't get over 420J2 or anything of similar properties.

Thanks!

Does it have to be a new one? I see old ones quite often at flea markets, especially the TL-29 military issues. Carbon steel...gotta love that.

Here is a carbon steel Camillus:

Electrician

Wow- that looks like almost exactly what I was looking for. Carbon steel, the Camillus name, and all under $20... heck, I may just have to buy a second one to pretty up. Thanks for the link!

Kerry- I was thinking about that. I was also going to put a WTB up in the FS section here if I nothing came up. I figure that I'll give this thread a few more days to get everyone's opinion. I'll probably end up going with the Camillus.

Thanks Esav. I had looked at the SAKs, but I was hoping for a little more traditional slip joint style (if that makes any sense... SAKs have been around forever and are probably considered traditional aswell I guess). However, I'm 99% sure that I'm picking up a small-medium SAK for my keychain.

Hello, I too am an electrician, The blade shape that you will find most usefull is a sheep's foot. Trust me an 1 1/2" sheeps foot with 4-5" handle and a proper sheath will serve you very well.

Good luck. and buy American made as often as you can.

Shoot, that's an easy one for an electrician. Buy a Klein. They make the best electrician's tools. Got a full set myself left over from when that was my job. I don't think they make their own knives. But I've got one of the thin single blade lockbacks they sell. Still one of my favorites and locks up as tight as any Benchmade. Holds a heck of an edge, too. And they're not pricey. I don't have one of their electrician's knives, but I've seen them in the catalogs. You can get stainless or carbon steel blades. Buy a Klein.

I've bought Klein tons of times, but I didn't realize they had knives. Their selection seems to be pretty good too.

Thanks.

Edit- I'm not actually looking for a work knife. I'll probably it with me, but I'm just looking for another nice slippy, and this pattern appeals to me. I was just hoping that someone could point in the direction of something like a S&M in the pattern. However, it looks like I'll just be learning how to rehandle on the Camillus unless I go with the 3 bladed model from Klein (which will still end up rehandled).

There are 5 Camillus with wood handles on Ebay right now. They have wood handles and carbon blades. Search for "tl-29" . Be sure to include the quotation marks.

I got a Craftsman (Camillus made) at a knife club meeting Monday night for 7 bucks. I would check out local clubs and gun/knife shows.

Any response? Anybody look? The SOG website is in the Manufacturers Forum. Look under Folders and tell me what you think.

Very nice, Esav. I wish I had one of those 5 years ago. The hokey outlet on the blade should come off with a little Scotchbrite.

I gotta say - while I am a sucker for natural bone, stag, and carbon steel....I do admit to carrying a SAK Alox Soldier or Alox Electrician from time to time. Both are great knives that even I can appreciate.

This is the new Klein knife and it looks pretty nice to me. But those old Camillus knives are hard to beat

Thanks for the responses yall! I ended up buying an electrician in carbon steel in fairly good condition. I'll see if I can get some pictures up.
