Hey guys. Just lost my job and I want a new knife. Can someone build me one? For free. Ivory handles and a 1095 Scandi ground blade? I mean, blade forums is an awesome place and all. Just kidding. Been putting my one and only jk to work along side my esee 4. Boy there's quite a difference. The jk fills up my whole hand and just feels well balanced over all. I wish I had gotten a kydex sheath for it, but I'm afraid it would mess up the maple burl. I don't know what's up but I think I need to thin the edge out a bit, it doesn't bite into wood like I wish it would. I need to get myself some at to reprofile it though! Sharp maker ain't gunna cut it. Overall though, I'm more afraid of breaking the esee, my jk is a mini pry bar. I come around this side of the forums every so often, someone want to fill me in on what's new and what not? Anybody have any ideas on thinning out the edge? It's kind of a convex/flat grind type thing going on with a 40° edge.

I made mine a full convex (just took the secondary edge out) using 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper. This thinned the edge down quite a bit (and took for-damned-ever!)... if I was to start this project today, I would start with a file then move to the sandpaper. Once you get to the desired thickness/angle, you can use finer grits until it shines like a mirror (if that is what you want). Not hard, just time consuming (and totally worth it, made my knife more "MINE" if you know what I mean). Had to practice on a couple cheap blades first though, NO-WAY was I going to rush and mess up my first handmade/custom

I didn't think I would ever have to show this in pics so I don't have any good ones of the edge it has today, I hope you can see in the pics below what I am talking about.

Day I got it

Today

I don't know if that helped any but hey, I tried:D

Yeah, mine has the same type of bevel on it that yours does in the first picture. I wish I was brave enough to go at it with a file. I thinned it out a bit with a diamond stone, but it took forever. It seems like the shoulder sometimes contacts the wood or whatever before the edge can at certain angles.

You probably don't remember John, but that is what I requested. I like to do my own optimization on my stuff

If I remember correctly, mine was the first monogrammed blade and also the first sheath with a button closure you had made.
