Or; I've been th victim of a jedi mind trick!

Maybe it was the baguette and some cheese with a nice dark french roast coffee for breakfast. But for some reason I'm carrying an Opinel and the Micra today.

I'm not an overboard fan of the Opinel, or for that matter the Micra, but they do a pretty decent job of taking care of most stuff one runs into in a 21st century American suburbia surrounding. The Opinel does a good job on bread and cheese, and it breaks down cardboard boxes pretty quick for the recycle bin.

Well, we'll see how the day goes. With my luck I'll fall in the lake, the Opinel will swell shut, and I won't be able to find the knife blade on the micra to cut myself free of the line I'm tangled in.
:D

Sit calmly Carl, one of us will be right there to tend to you. Breath in and out... Sit still...!

I totally admire Pinnah and the ability to pare down to what's necessary but I'd feel so under tooled worth just that.
I'd be 4 lbs lighter but still...

You have gone over to the Darkside.....

I've tried to make myself like Opinels , just like I've tried to make myself like going to the dentist to get some teeth pulled .
But in both cases no matter how hard I try the thought of them makes me sick .

Carl,

The force is still in balance. I'm carrying a Schrade 51OT today (and listing as a I walk).

In any event, come to the dark side. We have Madeleines.

Well, the afternoon went uneventfully. Pearl the wonder corgi and I went for a walk around the lake, and no great disaster took place. I did feel an unexpected count of vertigo on the little footbridge over the creek that feeds into the lake, but Pearl dragged to the other side and put my pipe in my mouth and got it lit. She told me all was well, so we continued the walk. Once home, the Opinel opened a fresh bag of bacon treats for the wonder corgi.

Later, the micra aided me in replacing the light switch in the upstairs bathroom. Used both the flat phillips and the regular flat driver. After, in a moment of relaxation, I used the nail file to do a lithe smoothing out. Then the bottle opener popped the top of a Mexican Coke.

All in all, everything worked as expected, and the space/time continuum seems to be still intact.

Now I wonder if I should try a Leatherman Squirt P4. At least it has tools on the outside and hs small pliers.

I am the ski instructor on the slippery slope.

EDIT to Add: I find the PS4 to be good for the backcountry where I small pliers help with sewing and zipper repair and I don't need a strong set of scissors. The PS4s are more like the Vic Classic scissors, only not quite as nice. In my suburban life, I deal with clam shell packaging and zip ties, among other things and occasionally metal bits and for that, the Micra is better. Besides, I have a full size MT in my man-purse if I need the pliers.

You're a really great sport, Carl. Worth repeating.

Yeah, i get the feeling. After spending too much time here and not in traditional i started carrying my charge tti again instead of just my charlow (which I adore) and have found that it really helps when I am working around my property. It's good to try new stuff though, just wean yourself off it slowly, try keeping a peanut in the watch pocket and the micra in lfp and opinel rfp :D.
Have a good one all,
james.

I keep avoiding the Opinels. I have a feeling one will lead to a half dozen just like the Victorinox.

You need to have an Opinel. Every knife person needs to have an Opinel. I have one, and I'm content with one. They are great slicers, and will open a UPS box excellently. They certainly will make very short work of a wedge of Jarlsburg and a length of baguette like nobodies business. While I wouldn't take one on some kind of back country expedition, they will handle most day to day cutting jobs well.

Hi, my name is Pinnah so... I get to clarify what "pulling a pinnah" means.

Those of you know me on the forum know that I'm a big fan of the Opinel, specifically the Opinel #9. And you know that I'm a really big fan of the Leatherman Micra. And yes, the Opinel/Micra combo is by far my most frequently carried combo.

But that's not "pulling a pinnah". For me (and remember, I'm Pinnah), pulling a pinnah means replacing your SAK/BSA style knife (or even replacing your large MT) with an EDC knife & Micra combo. That is, pulling a Pinnah means using the Micra to provide just enough tools while enjoying the freedom to use whatever knife floats your boat.

Yesterday, pulling a pinnah meant this:

If forced to wear dress slacks, pulling a pinnah means this:

I have a deep love/frustration relationship (it's complex) with Buck lockbacks. This is a common carry:

And sometimes I swap the 500 for a 112 like this.

So long as the Micra is in my LFP and some other knife is in my RFP, that is pulling a pinnah.

Fenway, the chocolate lab want to walk in the snow and so do I. Have a great weekend all.

Hmmm. Good explanation of the thing. Yes, a micra does give you the minimal tools for sone unexpected event, and thus leaves you free to float the boat with dedicated knife of choice. Following Dave's parameters of a 'pinnah' I now have operating guidelines.

Here's a pinnah for downtown D.C. dress occasions. A small legal size Sardinian resolza.

And for general walking around suburbia and some woods walks, the Northwoods stockman with micra.

And for those mornings that I haven't had my coffee or my meds yet, and I have no idea what I'm doing;

I like mine. Whenever I venture forth with a SAK, I usually find space for the P4. Although its piers are too small for serious jobs, they are not so bad for less serious ones. I prefer the P4 to the PS4, which gives up the awl and tiny screwdriver for dinky scissors, a bad trade, IMHO. I'll take good little pliers over nasty little scissors any time. Vic scissors are much better, anyway.

I can say I blame Dave, but I should had just watched where I was walking. I was looking over the micra he gave me, and I didn't see this rabbit hole, and I fell down, and dooowwn…
