I'm really starting to warm up to the SpyderEdge....

When i first got into knives, i liked the Combo edge for it's versatility, having both serrations and plain edge i found to be a good compromise....

then i realized that i was mainly using the front of the knife and rarely using the serrations, so my next couple knives (Cricket and Native) were PE, i found a fully PE blade much more effective than a CE....

then, i purchased my first Dodo, a SpyderEdge, and found tht it cut just as well, if not better, than my PE knives

at this point i began to realize that CE's were a poor compromise, and that a well-designed serrated edge was just as usable as a PE

now, i'm an "all-or-nothing" kinda' guy, i have *no* use for CE's, in fact, the presence of a CE is actually a strike against the knife, my knives will either be fully serrated, or fully plain edge....

so last night, i was jonesing for another Spydie fix, and i was trying to decide between 3 Spydies, a SE FRN Dragonfly, SE Delica3, or a Rescue 93mm, of the three, the Rescue was the most comfortable and had the best ergos, and i liked the Sheepsfoot blade layout....

so the next question was, do i get the black fully SE Rescue, or the blue CE Rescue?

i tried them both, but something about the CE Rescue just didn't seem right, it was wierd having a 1" section of PE at the tip, and since it was a saber/chisel grind, and i'm not a fan of that grind on PE blades (seems illogical to grind only one side of a PE blade), i went with the black fully SE, a true cutting demon, that long, straight SpyderEdge looks like it could cut through anything...

i love the nice, thick spined blade, the balance, it's just a great knife, it won't be winning any "beauty" contests, but for pure functionality, it can't be beat, and i value function over form anyway.....

"normies" may consider the Rescue as ugly as sin, i for one find the pure, honest "I'm a *WORKING* knife, not a fashion statement" look and feel of the Rescue 93 a refreshing departure from the "pretty" knives, to me, the Rescue is a good, honest looking knife

and strangely enough, even though it has a 3" blade, it doesn't seem to scare the sheeple, the blunt tip and plain-vanilla looks scream "TOOL!" not "weapon"

I'm not a huge fan serrated knives because I don't have a great need for them. I like the way they look though. But Spyderco makes the best serrated edge in the market.

How do you sharpen yours?
the Sharpmaker, it makes it truly idiot-proof, and i'm a pretty durn skilled idiot when it comes to sharpening... ;)

Welcome to the AllOrNothing club. We're currently holding our spring membership drive, which involves the purchase and use of plain-edge or fully-serrated blades only. Monthly dues consist of a knife falling in this category shipped to me. :D

Really, i couldn't agree more. I don't like combo-edges at all. I only have two: one is the Gerber E-Z Out I got in the early 90s, and one is a Benchmade 525 I bought the other day (the local store only stocks combo edges... they think that's what people want... and I didn't want to wait :D ).

I've been kinda finding the same thing. I've never really liked the combo edges, though, my EZ-OUT has come in handy the odd time:) Just before Xmas, I bought a Rescue 93mm and started to monkey with it a bit, and found that it was actually pretty useful, all things considered. I tend to use PE for most things. Then, the other day, I found a Delica 4 in a SE and bought it and have been using it just to get a feel for it. It works pretty well:D

I am not a huge fan of serrated edged knives either, as I really don't have much use for them. Although, I am wanting to get a Spyderco rescue knife to keep in my truck!!

That's what I use.

A bit slow, but effective.

I'm ready to be shouted down here, but I find a comboedge useful sometimes - key is the blade has to be at least four inches or so. Or longer.

I grew up fishing, I do a lot of fishing, sometimes ya gotta carry one knife.

(I of course usually carry at least 2.)

And when you have one knife, sometimes that serrated edge comes in handy.
And sometimes that extra-sharp plain edge is the better slicer.

Generally, I prefer plain edge. My EDCs are plain edge.

But when fishing, or some other times when I've only got one blade on me, I'll use a comboedge.

I carry a BM Mini Pika comb edge as a beater and find it useful. The serrated edge is good for starting difficult cuts which the PE can finish and especially good at poly rope which the PE will not touch.

Perfect example. And of course there are many more.
