I'm seriously considering buying a straight-edge KaBar Marine knife!

I'm tempted to purchase a non-serrated Marine KaBar to carry on my person in an emergency. (When trouble happens, the police are just minutes away!)

I bought a KaBar Marine model for a friend. I found it to be well made.

The world of fixed blade knives is as big as the pocketknife world - many, many choices (and opinions) - the Kabar USMC is as good as any. OH

The Ka-Bar is pretty much indestructible, and a good choice. Holds and edge, and I have always been a fan of the stacked leather handles.

Have you considered the Ontario 499 Air Force Pilot Survival knife? A little shorter than the Ka-Bar Marine/Army fighting knife, but just as tough.

Aren't you the same guy who wanted to stab the old alcoholic on the bus because you didn't have a phone? Your posts frankly concern me. I'm all for knives being carried, and guns too, but the tone of your posts worries me. Considering the type of things that seem to make you long for a weapon I really feel like a less lethal option would be better for your chances of staying out of jail, and for the safety of the public in general.

Did you not see knarfeng's post? I don't recall seeing anything on this sub-forum about stabbing an old alcoholic and I don't want it here. I'll close the thread if it keeps drifting to self defense discussion.

The USMC Kabar is a great iconic knife that everybody needs in their collection however I made sure to add the ARMY version to my collection as that is the branch I served in. :) The Kabar isn't really the best at anything but it can do a little bit of everything which is why it worked so well for the troops and has such a following. Kabar does the 1095 steel very well and the last few I've handled came razor sharp. I love the stacked leather handle as well and my wife's face when I opened mine and immediately smelled the handle was hilarious! She had and pretty bewildered look on her face to say the least. ;)

the 1217 Kabar Mk II USMC knife is a classic - they also recently updated it with the 1317 Dog's Head outdoorsman -- same blade & leather handle, teardrop shaped pommel and the guard has most of the top removed, which makes it a little easier to use outdoors.
I'm also a fan of the Kabar Navy Mk 1 - shorter blade, a little easier to use for most outdoor tasks, especially when hiking/camping/bushcrafting/whatever you call it.

My apologies, I was just dismayed to see this thread pop up after an almost identical one by the same poster was moved to PracTac just yesterday (edit: link removed)

The KA-BAR USMC knife is a fine knife

I have a Ka-Bar Extreme D2. I got it about 8 years ago as a SHTF, get the h@ll out of Dodge, backpack knife. S hasn't hit F, I'm still in Dodge and I take it out of it's sheath about every 3-4 months to oil the blade. But, it is nice knife.

I have a Ka-bar tucked away somewhere. Bought it during a bout of nostalgia over one I had in the Army & broke. Nice knife for the money, iconic as heck, and a lot of cool history to it.

That said, wouldn't be my 1st choice to carry as an EDC defensive knife. But that is a topic for a different subforum.
