I've lived at my current address for a little over 8 years now...had no idea that the gentleman that lives across the street from me is a knifemaker! I was just reading about him in the article posted below. I wave to him all the time when we are blowing snow and mowing lawn etc, but have rarely ever spoken to him. I think I may have to arrange a proper introduction!:D -Matt-

It's nice to see a positive slanted knife story.

Like Stacy keeps showing us, it pays to talk to people.

It's nice to have somebody you can talk to about things.

Of the 275 he has made he still has half of them in those photos.
He must do it for love.

Some thing in the story and photos strike me as funny.

Safety lesson
He's a piano tuner, but I don't see any hearing protection

He wears his dust mask on the top of his head.
I see a lot of people doing that.

Cool article. As usual, some oddness in steel description. But, I like this quote of his (John Beth's):

"You end up doing everything by hand with hard rubber and sandpaper at the end because it's the only way to have complete control."

I find that to be true. I think I became a better maker when I learned where to slow down and work by hand.

Nothing wrong with collecting your own knives is there? My guess is, he's not paying the bills with them;) I bet he loves making them though! -Matt-

Hell I am the biggest collector of my own work, got over 50 finished knives on the wall. I am sure I am not the only one, I very reluctantly sell one every now and again.

Yes, when I am introducing myself at knife dinners, I always use this line, "Hello, I am Stacy Apelt, and I possess the world's largest collection of Stacy Apelt knives."

One reason I always say to put your city and state in your profile is this exact situation. It's not like we put a neon sign over our shop that says KNIVES...oh, wait....some of us do!

Several of my customers have more of my knives than I do... mostly because I've given away a lot of what has hung around the shop not cutting anything. I only have one good sheath knife left by myself.

Stacy, I'm curious...I seem to remember a post about a neon knife sign, but did you really put that neon sign up over your shop?

When I do the new shop it will go over the door.
