I'm fed up with coming home to find my knife magazines crumpled and maimed EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!!! Why, oh why, can't the publishers return to the good old days of putting each magazine in a plastic sleeve when they're mailed? I'd gladly pay for the extra expense of the baggie and postage in exchange for getting a fresh copy every month instead of one that looks like it's been in the dentist's office for three years.

Hey! I know what you mean. Same thing happens to me with those magazines (especially the fishing, guns, or knife magazines). I was brave enough one day last summer to ask my local mail carrier what happened when he handed me a mangled magazine. He just said the machine ate it. I pointed to the faint heel mark on the cover and asked if his machines wore shoes. He didn't think that was funny. He really got ecstatic when I suggested that maybe if I got a dual subscription for the USPS and for me, one of those would get through unscathed and my money is on the USPS. I haven't seen him lately, rumor has it he's been cruising the gun shows looking for teflon ammo.

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!

Absolutley, Knives illustrated just came today and the front cover is torn in several places. The whole magazine has a fold down the middle, and really is in pitiful condition. Also, its not like this isnt a regular occurrence. I wasnt around in the good old days, so ive not seen the effects of a plastic sleeve, but anything is better than this.

Every issue of Tactical Knives I get is damaged when it arrives. I really like the magazine, but why does it always have ripped pages? Steven Dick, are you there?

Wow, I thought I was the only one this was happening to!! I used to subscribe to Knives Illustrated but every issue was chewed up. I collect knife books and mags, and these weren't worth the time. I even emailed them and asked what the deal was. Needless to say they didn't answer to my satisfaction. I bet the postal workers pass em around for a couple weeks before they deliver em

! Joke people!! No offense meant to the postal workers of America! Take care! Michael

Well I feel lucky and privileged.
Today I received my second Blade magazine. The first one was in good condition and this one was chewed up so I'm running at 50% so far! Of course I can see where this trend is headed - down.

Maybe after a week or so we should forward this thread to Blade and Knives Illustrated!!!!!!

Senator,

I have had the same problem with other magazines, but so far all my knife, gun and leathercraft stuff has come through fine. In the past, I have called the publisher and they have contacted the postal service. A couple of times when the magazine was totally destroyed publishers have sent me a new copy.

Maybe you need to move out of the big city and into the woods like me!!

My knives are just like rabbits---they keep multiplying!!

Hi Kelly,

My knife mags always get "chewed" by the post office. I have started buying them at the news-stand too. I save those and read the ones that come in the mail.

Some mags do still come in plastic bags though, Robb Report, and all the Dupont Registrys... I can't think of any others right now, but I am sure that I get more than that.

If they want to save money the $.03 plastic bag is not where to start.

I don't have any knife mag subscriptions right now, other than "To The Point". My knife catalogs do get a bit rumpled though. It is annoying.

Mike,

You're just gonna have to find a way to rumple that cover for "To The Point" so these guys will feel like it's a real magazine!

I've let most of my subscriptions lapse for this very reason. Most of the mags arrive in deplorable condition, ripped, crumpled, etc..
Better to purchase at the magazine shop than suffer this. By the way, the cost of first class postage is going up next year, good service is expensive you know.

"How do I stop this thing?"

My condolences Kelly.

I know there are some folks at my post office interested in knives. Mine always arrive late and dog-eared. Sometimes the subscription cards have already been torn out. When they are sealed on occasions, it is amazing that they arrive earlier than usual

I guess I am lucky, in that my mags arrive in good shape. I know the postal guys read the mags, but they are careful with mine. In case you ask why I know, many years ago, I worked there and I read a few myself.

I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.

Yea I know where you are coming from it has happened to me on several occasions, and I agree I would pay the extra $$ just for them to come in one of thos cool little sleeves.....

I subscribe to Tactical knives and Blade and it appears that my postman has no interest in knives! They all arrive in good condition.

"i started out with nothing, and i still have most of it." i love that line big tex!!!!!!!!!

I've the same complaint too, but I'm happy if they reach me at all. Since I live in europe I'll get the mag's later than you guy's (and girl's) and it takes time to realize if an issue was lost and it is even more difficult to get a back-issue here once the new issue is out.
Since the subscribtion price is much lower than buying it from stores i'll take the risk.
Greetings
