I'm so glad I EDC my BK2

It's come in incredibly handy in 3 cases now that really only a BK2 would have been able to confidently solve. It saved a bonfire party by quickly making fire wood out of wet logs, pried open a car door properly without damaging it when a friend locked his keys in the car on the highway with our phones still in the car while the car was still running, and hammered in some nails on a board that were sticking out that we were using to help someone in a wheel chair navigate a very wheel chair unfriendly terrain.

One hell of a knife and I'm so glad I carry it on me at all times outside of work and school. It's also the ugliest piece of steel that gets the jaws dropping the furthest. (I also carry a smaller slicer on me, so I cover everything.)

I know people hate carrying the BK2 due to it's weight, but put it on your belt and tie it to your leg with some paracord and it's weight it perfectly secure and no problem at all. I do find that the sheath dulls it far more quickly than it would from normal use, so I'm constantly sharpening it, but I sharpen my knives anyway. I carry it all day and have no problem at all- I haven't gone on a hike with it yet, but with the ease of carry I have experienced with it, I would not second guess giving it a shot.

So, what holds you back from carrying this knife? If you have carried it, how do you like/dislike it?

The BK-2 is an awesome knife!! It will do it all.

Take this for example:
Just the other day I took it to a baseball game. The BK-2 not only hit for the cycle, but after that, went up into the stands to help sell hotdogs and beer!

I dont carry it, but I keep it handy. Whenever I go out it rides in my truck with me. My Becker EDC is either an 11 or a 14

I carry mine from time to time, not everyday, in a spec ops sheath. I don't even notice the weight. It carries quite well.

I carry my 16 in the off duty EDC role.

My super-fat-periors don't like us to carry fixed blades on out belts...

I wouldn't mind carrying it all the time but it scares most people in so cal when you carry a knife of the BK2's stature, most people around here can't handle the small pocket knife I carry. I do carry it when camping which it is great for.

I dunno, the lack of the BK2's stabby look seems to keep it looking people friendly. I don't get people running in terror at the sight of it- hell I get admiration for the things girth instead.

I guess my friends are easily startled

i edc'd my 2 one day while doing some yard work for a friends grandmother. she loved it,and i let her use it to cut up a whole chicken she was about to fry.now shes got one in her kitchen drawer.

It depends on where you live. I couldn't get away with walking around with a full sized Becker on my hip. The sheeple are trained that KNIFE=WEAPON...instead of KNIFE=CUTTING TOOL. Nothing sets me off faster than calling my knives "weapons"....as if I'm going to stab or cut someone.

Some can get away with it. Dave Canterbury lives off the beaten path and walks around town with his PLSK1 at all times. He says noone gives it a second glance. Its stuff like this why living in small towns in the hills is a good thing.

Ah. It's refreshing to hear of another person who EDC's this wonderful beast. Worried I was carrying too much steel, even for a knife lover. You are doing it legally though, right? In SoCal, there are no laws about blade length when it comes to non-locking folders and fixed blades.
Check on the laws, wouldn't want you in trouble, and I wouldn't want you to have that beast confiscated.
Dulling because of that crappy stock sheath? Get an Azwelke Kydex foldover sheath, and put a Tek-Lok on it. I won one, but I think it is worth whatever Azwelke sells them for, and more. They are well built and pop the blade out with a light push, yet you can shake the BK2 upside down without fear of it falling out.
Still carry the small blade, too (BK14!). Sheeple will appreciate it, and not get freaked out and report you, or whatever. They are useful when a larger blade is not.

Sounds like a really heavy drawer

Yea don't worry about the knife laws. Here in Canada we can conceal up to a 6 inch blade. Any idea how much one of those custom sheaths would cost?

The only law about knives without any federal restrictions in Florida (state law), is you can't conceal anything more than a 4" folder without a CCW, but it appears that South Carolina and South Dakota have the fewest knife laws of all 50 states, being that they hardly say word one about such laws.

So if I wanted, I could walk around town with a 6 on my belt (so long as no local ordinances say otherwise, and I don't know of any in my area) and no one can say it's illegal. And as soon as I get a nice leather or kydex sheath for my 16 and my 2, they will rotate camping duty, with the 16 probably pulling double duty as my EDC in a leather pocket sheath. My parents are a little to much of sheeple to let me EDC the 2 though... To bulky looking I guess?

Odd isn't it? We live in the same state and I can walk down the road with an AR15 across my back, wearing a BK-5 and tomahawk in plain sight, and folks just wave at me when they drive past.

I live in the control state of CA and this week I actually saw a guy at the gas station with an old fixed blade skinner on his belt. Reminded me back when I was a kid when every truck has a gun rack with a rifle. I miss those days......

Doogoon: "Any idea how much one of those custom sheaths would cost? "
Around $30-35, I believe. Well worth it.

While I'm not aware of anything in the Canadian criminal code relating to the maximum or minimum size of carried knives, I am under the impression that concealing any knife is a no-no. Where did you read that it is legal to conceal up to 6"? I believe any knife is legal regardless of length (technically... carry a BK9 through the mall to test it out), as long as it is visible and not concealed, and it is kept for the sole purposes of being used as a tool. If you so much as hint at the idea of using it for self defense, there's an even better chance it's getting confiscated. Where do you EDC your BK2 Doogoon? I can't imagine you walking around downtown with that hunk of steel without attracting some negative attention.

The fact is that most knives are considered tools under Canadian law, it's only a weapon when it's intended to be used on another person with the intention of harming or threatening them. (or designed for it) I can't quite remember where I read the 6 inch limit, I'll find it later~ but I do know that a big part of the reason is due to some religions tradition to carry some sort knife or something like that. The law may be different in the downtown core, but I know for a fact that a 6 inch blade wont get you in trouble with the police.

I can tell you right now that it wont be a problem unless you're scaring people with it. This may sound like a load of bs, but last summer at around 1 in the morning in Burnaby I was concealing a Buck 119 special, it was very well concealed under my jacket. The blade is BARELY under 6 inches. (if you don't already know) I was just hanging out on the sidewalk (by an elementary to top it) with a friend just talking. A police car rolled up and stops at the curb where we are standing and the officer exited his vehicle.(I almost dropped a brick into my pants) He told us how we he was looking for someone running around with some sort of toy gun that was scaring people and we chatted a little bit wondering how crazy someone would be to go around doing that. Anyway, he ID'd us both and then asked to search us to make sure neither of us were the nutcase. I declared my Buck 119 as "I have something to declare. I'm carrying a fairly large knife." He asked to see it, I lifted my jacket flap and all he said was "oh, ok." He then asked us to empty our pockets of our larger items and was satisfied. He radioed in to let the other cars searching for the guy to let them know who we were and what I had on me. He was totally fine with it and so were the other officers.

It really wont be a problem around here. That's not even the last time I had an incident with an officer while I was carrying that knife. It's totally cool. (at least in burnaby it is, I intend to make some calls and find out the places that it's ok to take a large knife. Places like the skytrain or downtown may have different laws.)

love my BK2...probably my fav Becker, but i cant imagine edcarrying that thing on my belt. i already have a Smith revolver there daily, so ive been carrying the BK17 in my back pocket using a pocket sheath another member here recommended and it is the perfect edc imo. i do drop a small Buck in my front pocket so i dont freak folks out when i need to use a knife in public LOL
