Unless things have changed, she can't have the 111 in the Navy as it's blade is to long. If she brings it with her it will be taken from her and gone forever. Call her and ask her to send it to you for safe keeping until she gets out of the Navy. Or, just get another one. The 111 clasic is for sale on the auction site all the time. Life is all about choices, time to make some good ones.

The 111 is less than 4 inches. While she can't have it in basic training, after that there is no reason she can't have it. I am in the Navy and my edc is a Manix 2.

my other brothers boy is on subs now and his fave is a 110 also and he carries a 110 as i did

i was in the nav early 70's and seems i recall that the 110 was the largest blade on a folder we could by with have
but that there was a leanth limit .. i do recall that in 72(?) i seen my first 112 and got one
one selling point in the BX was that it was 'blade leanth legal'
seems i recall being told the 110 was too long by about half a dozen red hairs ...;)
i do recall that the boatson's and other deck apes carred a lot of the short thin buck fixed blades
so .. when assigned with them for a few days... i put on one of my 124's for ... show ...
... and ... up in front of the COB ... again ..."" boy- that xoxoxo pigsticker is jest to dayum big""
i countered that it was a dive knife and that i had put in for dive school .....
wrong thing to say to a chief before he has had coffee...
you young ones .. take my advice and dont argue with the chief of the boat
as then i was told next inspection if found .. they would be gone..
so i sent them home... guess that is why i still have them!!!
but it would be a nice bit of knolage if any one can conferm blade leanth limits
during early 70's in the navy...

Well each unit is going to have its own restrictions, I am a Seabee so I have spent my entire career on the dirt. Now my uncle was a fleet guy during Vietnam, and he carried a 110. Now a lot of bases set the limit at 5 inches fixed or folder. Either way she should be fine after basic. Infact I took a knife to basic and all they did was make me mail it home.
