What do you guys consider to be the best production thrower? Why? I'm looking at doing some of this again but back in my younger days I was throwing cheapie blazing arrows from places like Smokie Mountain knife works. I'd like to get something a little better now...

It depends on what your intended use or objective is.

1. just to have fun and amuse yourself, then anything that is comfortable and produces results is acceptable.

2. If you are a serious competitor, then I would go with one of the custom/semi-custom knife makers such as Bobby Branton of this list.

3. If you want a competitive level/style knife without the serious competition and you are looking for a mass produced model, then your selection is very small. If I was in this catagory, I would get a set of the cheap Pakistan bowies from one of the knife catalogs (around 15 bucks each) and modify them for real throwing. They are the right size, right weight, and have that serious thrower look.

There is a company called "American Eagle" They sell through EBAY. They make a FANTASTIC production thrower. 13" long about 14 oz. in weight, very simple bilatterally symetrical shape, etc. I think they sell around $28 each. They are the best production thrower I've seen since the disappearance of the larger BlackJack Broadhead! Only problem with them is that their edges (spine and edge side) are squared off, so when by accident you hit knife on knife, they ding up pretty easy... No problem though, I just carry my SAK file along and file down the dings... After about 2 years with these knives, my edges are now nicely radiused

Bobby Branton's knives! These things are built like an M1A1, and they throw real nice, too!

They make most everything else just look positively tiny, by comparison!!! This one is about 14"-15" long, btw. It's become the gem of my collection, as far as sheer power is concerned!
