I am looking at the SOG Seal Team Elite,The Ontario Ranger Night Stalker 6, and the Ka-Bar Becker BK7.

The SOG Seal Team Elite: I like this knife because it has a good 7" blade, Its made from good AUS-8 Steel, it also has a nice sheath and handle as well

The Ontario Ranger Night Stalker 6
: I absolutely LOVE the blade shape of this knife, its just sexy. It also has a nice looking handle, Im not sure if it is wood or plastic, if anyone knows, please let me know. The only concern I have with this knife is the blade steel, its 5160 carbon steel. Im wondering if thats a good steel for a Combat/Survival style knife, which is how I am going to use this knife. Nutnfancy from YouTube said he found this steel had very small chips after Hard use (log splitting). I dont think I will be using this knife for that, but still. I also like the MOLLE compatible Sheath, even though its 2" too long for the knife (for some reason).

The Ka-Bar Becker BK7: Their aren't a whole lot of concerns with this knife, I like the blade (Not as much as the Ontario's blade though). The handle is nice because I can remove it and paint it OD green like I want to.

I like the Ontario the most out of all these, but if the Steel isnt good, looks dont matter. The Main thing I want to know is, If you have had use with any of these 3 knives (Especially the Ontario Night Stalker 6) Please let me know what you liked and didnt like about the knife

-please reply, Thanks

The BK-7 is great and the 1095 CroVan is are really good steel for this sort of knife. If you buy one you should careful, mine came VERY sharp!
Personally I really like the look of the blade on the BK-7 - they look all business, they don't get all fancy, just a good looking functional blade.

If you want to go with better scales & sheath then I would suggest the ESEE 6 over the Ontario knife.

Splitting wood isn't a problem with the BK-7:

The blade was still in great condition after that, when I got home I gave it a bit of sharpening and it is ready for its next workout!

i think the conclusion on the nutnfancy video was that the knife had a bad heat treat.

lot of custom guys use 5160 for hard use knives...

also on knifeforums just recently they had some videos of a nightstalker in use in their ranger forum.

My thoughts.... the BK7. I dont care for the serrated edges on the SOG and I dont care for the recurve blade on the Night Stalker. However, if I had another choice I would go with the original Ranger RD6, to stay close to what your options are. I have one that's been great.

BK7 hands down. Ontarios heat treat is hit n miss, and their business ethics are whack. Sog is too expensive for what you get.

I think I still might go with the Night Stalker 6, if not that, the BK7. If i do get the NS6, do you guys think it would be a good "Rope/cord Cutter?" Im gonna use it for that, as well as a stick cutter and a combat knife if i ever had too. Do you guys think 5160 would do ok with that? Im not an extreme hard use knife guy at this time. Im just wondering on how 5160 would do in the conditions of rope/cord or stick cutting over a long period of time. Also, I think I want to paint the Micarta handles a darker green, How good would spray paint with a finish do on Micarta?

i cant see why it wouldnt cut rope well.

no idea on spray paint on micarta.

my suggestion is either contact chestnutridgeknifeshop or the ranger forums on kinfeforums..the create justin gingrich posts regularly there and will answer all your questions directly.

chestnutridgeknifeshop also carries beckers, custom ones too, he can give you an honest and informed opinion on the knives for your needs.

if you go to the exchange forums here, chestnutridgeknifeshop posts a lot of stuff in the production dealer's knife section, a lot on beckers and rangers.

Becker represents value for fixed blades, get the BK7

bk 7 for sure
just got the Ontario Ranger 6 great knife....worst sheath EVER!

I'd have to agree. The knife is awesome but the sheath is not so great. I mainly dislike the velcro that holds the handle, its cheesy and doesn't do a good job of doing what it should. I've been meaning to get a kydex I just have not got around to it.
