I'm tired of tearing up short pockets with pocket clips...Help!

Here in Fla. shorts are virtually a "must have" item. They tend to be of lighter fabrics for cooling one down and are highly prone to be chewed up by pocket clips.

Any of you enterprising individuals know how I can slow this process down?
Replacing shorts on a monthly/bi-monthly basis is starting to get expensive.
Any suggestions are more than welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Stainless steel handle and clip - Delica2, Dragonfly2, Endura2. Slick stainless won't rip you up, but, it's heavy in those shorts. I also use a regular Dragonfly - light, smooth, doesn't seem to tear anything -- oh wait, that's because I just drop it in there with all the other junk.

Cheers,

I read a post awhile ago about how someone carried a knife tucked in his undies!

How about getting a small piece of material of the same color as your shorts. Fold the material over the waistband of your shorts or if you preffer, your pocket, so one side is inside your shorts and the other side is outside. using only a few stitches, attach the material to your shorts. Now clip your folder on that area. When that area finally wears down, just snip the stiches and remove the material flap and make a new one. It is a removeable reinforcement.

Try to find one of the older Spyderco Delica's or Endura's with the molded in pocket clip instead of the metal clips. They are very easy on clothing, car doors, furniture...

With jeans I sometimes carry in my right front pocket, but with shorts or dress pants I carry them clipped to my waistband just behind my right (strong side) hip, about the four o'clock position. The knives clip to the waist band very easily and are quite comfortable in that position. I haven't noticed any undue wear. As a side benefit, if you wear your shirt untucked, or with a sweater or jacket, the knife is totally concealed but readily available. This works even when wearing boxers around the house in the evening.

Some great suggestions here so far.
Keep'em coming, please!

Hey Axel,
Where can I find that Magill holster ?
It's a neat idea, executed better than one I'd been designing.
Thanks,
Brian

I have another solution which I will be seeking a patent for. Hopefully I will have it available by the holiday season and of course BFC members will get first grabs at it.

After I have the paper work filed I will show the drawings and such but it is way cool

I think a well designed metal clip coated with polymer coating would solve the problem but as of yet no one makes it.

I machined a Delrin clip for one of my
knives as an experiment.

seems to be holding up ok...

if your carrying any of the new clip it spydercos that have the volcano grip handles and single screw pocket clip, you might try putting a small washer on the screw between the clip and the handle. That would give it more clearance at the other end. You may want to use some locktite on the screw then to make sure it stays tight enough.
On knives with different types of clips you could do the same thing only you'll have to drill and tap the spacer to match the screws, and you could get longer screws too so you can run them in all way and have everything hold nice and tight.
I think SOG had some knives with an adjustable clip too. Check them out.
