Well I've decided to buy a Spyderco. The Native caught my eye.I know next to nothing about Spyderco knives and I'm looking for a little advice.I'm torn between the the NativeI and the NativeIII.I like the style of the NativeI more but I like the materals of the NativeIII more. Can anybody give me any direct compairison between thees 2 knives. The archives were helpful but didn't really answer my questions. Is there any clear advantage to one or the other.

I actually like the ergos of the Native III better, though it's hard to beat the S30V in the newer Natives.

If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll zap a side-by-side pic or two for you.

Let's give this one to the denizens of the Spyderco forum.

Had a few minutes, so I went ahead and took these. Lighting was crappy, so I eventually just made them B&W to get rid of hue distortions. Should give you a good idea of side-by-side though.

The Native III (on top in both pics) is a little fuller in the hand, and as you can see has a different shaped swedge.

It's really a toss-up. Both are good knives. The III give me ergos, though I do have larger hands. The standard Native now has better steel and clips/unclips a little more easily because of the smoother scales.

Well, I like the Native I/II because of the thinner profile and nicer (the look of) blade grinds.

The III is refered to a the 3D, it's fatter and more shaped.

Check out the Deacon's website for some GREAT pics

How does the vg-10 stack up against the S30V ?I like the vg-10 steel of my Fallkniven F1.This is the main sticking point for me.

I'd say S30V has better edge retention over all, but really VG-10 is nothing to laugh at. VG-10 will take an extremely fine grained-edge and slices like crazy. Of course, the S30V I have in Spydies (Para, Native, UK Penknife) is pretty "scary sharp" stuff in its own right.

Six one way, half-a-dozen the other. You're not going to go wrong. Heck, they're not terribly expensive. Get 'em both.

So there you go. Your answer is: it depends!

If you've got a Wal-Mart near you, you may find a Native I to feel in your own hands and you'll have at least half of the equation figured out.

The wal-mart up here is pretty far behind the ones down there.I called this morning about a buck 119 for my brother in law for christmas and the guy in the sporting good department didn't even know what it was. They don't cary spydercos either:( .
