I'm torn between F1, H1, Aurora, and Nebula

Can you help me decide? I've already got the S1 and a mini-canadian. I have some folks who I respect pointing me toward a BRKT Can-Special, but, man, it just doesn't look right to me. So, I'm currently fighting between an F1 or H1 to complete the set (not micarta), or an Aurora vs Nebula. I have medium sized hands and the knife will basically be for woodsloafing. I'm not a hunter. Can you give me some pros and cons, specs and stats, that could help me in this endeavor. I don't live where I can handle them beforehand.

Thanks

I didn't think I would like the Canadian Special either until I used one....WOW they are nice. They are exactly what you are talking about.

Of the knives you asked about, I would choose the Aurora--it is a substantial knife and BRKT quality. I have all of the ones you mention--the Fallknivens have handles I don't like. They felt good at first, but the longer you use them, the more you want a BRKT!

I am having some FKs handled with micarta and other customs stuff that might change that recommendation, but for now, that is it! :)

Aurora Let's See What We Have Here
Here Are the Specs: Overall Length: 9.5 Inches Blade Length: 4.5 Inches Blade Steel: A-2 Hardness: 58-59 rc Blade Thickness: .170 Inch Weight:6 Ounce

Nebula (Comments by Mike Stewart) The Nebula is Our Stainless Entry into the Bushcraft Area. We have used 12C27 for this knife and we have also used it in .156" thick. The Nebula is Hidden Tang and is lighter than the Aurora. The Two knives are very much alike. On the Nebula we have extended the Self Guard down a little more and Have use Our Convex Scandi Grind. Balance is on the First Finger. The Contour is like the Aurora but a Little Thinner. The Nebula uses the Same Bushcraft Sheath of the Aurora. The Full Width of the Ricasso is inside the handle and the Tang goes 3.5 Inches into the handle. You can actually See the Ricasso inside the handle Set at the top. We are only making 180 of these on this Run. Here are the Specs: Overall Length: 9.475 Inches Blade Length:4.5 Inches Blade Steel:12C27 Hardness: 58rc Blade Thickness: .156 Inch Weight:5.5 Ounces

Hope this helps another good place to buy BRKT is dlt trading co.

I'm looking at similar knives for similar use (non-hunting camping and woodsloafing). I often edc a Mini Canadian, but it is too small for me as a solo fixed blade when camping. Have you seen the Northstar? I'm pretty sure my next knife will be the Northstar. I like that it's a little shorter than the Aurora and in A2, and I like the jimping on the spine of the blade. They're a little scarce now, so I might look at the Mini Northstar too.

You can look for the northstars to start showing up very regularly in a couple weeks. Mike is making them right now! It is an excellent choice.

Can't go wrong with any of those blades. I have a F1 and S1. My personal preference is for the Fallkniven F1. It all depends on what niche you want the blade to fill. I haven't had the chance to handle that many different BRKT blades, but the ones I have I really liked.

the knife will basically be for woodsloafing. I'm not a hunter.

Keep the F1 in mind but the H1 was designed as a hunter.
Not really enough to matter, but I prefer the Nebula to the Aurora.

A friend of mine said--and he is right--you can have any handle on a hunting knife because you are only going to use it for a few minutes at a time, but if you are going to use the knife for hard work or for a long time, you want a nice smooth, hard handle that won't get hotspots and give blisters.

I have both the Nebula and Aurora and I really like the Nebula. Mike Stewart told me the hidden tang of the Nebula is pretty stout and can take battening. The handle is much slimmer and (to me) more comfortable. The Aurora is a very stout knife, but the handle is just a little to large for me. I do agree that having a smooth handle for wood working is a wise idea. The Northstar is another great option as well.

So, when is he coming out with a full tang Nebula? ha ha. I agree with the need for a comfortable handle..I've given myself blisters carving walking sticks before. Not fun taking dry bark off hickory with the wrong knife. I like the thick blade on the Aurora, and its A2, but prefer the full tang and smaller handle of the Nebula. I know you guys will say that the tang doesn't really matter, but I even like the looks of an exposed full tang better to a hidden tang. My mini canadian just looks cooler with the exposed full tang.

the H1 has a little fatter handle which some find better for longer use (compared to the F1) I prefer the blade of the F1 though

I have an Aurora "combo" system sheath...great knife/great ALL around package!

I own 3 FKs and love them all. The F1 is a great survival/allround knife, even thoug I personally prefer longer blades. I also like the sheath choices for the F1, I wish they had them for the NL-2, that sheath sucks.
