The BK-9 and the Esee Junglas. I understand this is the Becker sub-forum...but what do YOU guys prefer? I'm looking for something larger to pair with my BK-2.

~Thanks!

I've been told that the BK-9 handles like a large knife, while the Junglas handles like a small machete. I don't particularly like either, even my BK-2 is too big for me most of the time.

Maybe stop and consider weight also bud. Strapping it to a pack, or hip hang ? A big honkin blade from hip to knee and canteen of water had my farticus maximus hanging half out as I traipsed through the woods. Consider weight\carry options.

Probably a pack. The BK-2 would be on my side.

ESEEs $300 price tag has been enough to steer me away. Although I don't NEED such a tool. For Convenience I'd bring a BK9 for necessity I'd take a Junglas.

Edit: BK9 is about half the weight too

Street price on a Junglas Is $150. That's with a bitchen' sheath and Micarta handles.

I like my 9, though never handled a Junglas. I want one though. I also want a Camillus 9, sorry I ain't much help.

I had this same delima some time back. BK9 or Junglas. I went with the BK9 because I preferred the grip angle and the lack of unnecessary weight. Plus I could also get a BK2 and still have some spare change in my pocket for the price of the Junglas. I havent seen a Junglas below $170 with the sheath included although they may exist. The Junglas is a great blade though, I dont have anything bad to say about it.

Thanks for the thoughts! I'll probably buy the Junglas, due to the fact I don't own any ESEE knives.

From what I've read, the Junglas is a better chopper. It's bigger and heavier, so it makes sense. I like the 9 because I own it ***BIAS*** If I owned a junglas, I'd prolly like it also. But I'm cheap, so it's the 9 for me. Buy both, then do a side by side for me? thx? <3

My Junglas is a good chopper, for the weight. I have a larger blade, 12" long, and 13/64" thick, it's much heavier, but out performs the Junglas at chopping hard woods. The Junglas is a shorter thicker machete, more than it is a knife. It can baton, and when choked up it can do some smaller tasks, up by the handle.
The handle is great, I love the curve for chopping, it's a tall handle, and not too thick. The sheath is outstanding in many ways, I wish all my kydex sheaths were as nicely designed.
If you want a short, chopping, machete, I'd also point out the Ka-Bar Cutlass machete. Maybe even less of a knife than the Junglas, but it chops very well, is tough and much more affordable. The sheath is less versatile than with the Junglas, but most are, but remember cost.
Another less expensive chopper is the Ontario 12" Cutlass machete. At 1/8" thick, it's got some power, and it's only $20 or so. Down side is there's no edge, no sheath, and the handles kinda suck. If you can convex the edge, buy a $12 Blackie Collins sheath, and either mod or replace the handles with micarta, then you have a much better tool.

Oh and by the way the Hoonglass sheaths can be purchased separately to use with your BK9's. They are, not cheap though.
