I'm very glad to have my wife in one piece

My wife's been working some late shifts, so this morning, she decides she's too tired, so she's gonna drive home to sleep. She started to fall asleep, so she pulled over and dozed. Then, she pulled over a second time. The third time, she didn't pull over; she fell asleep, went off the road where there was no shoulder but mud, got the truck back onto the road, but then drifted across the other lane and smacked into a fairly large ponderosa pine. She's ok--walked away with a few bruises--the truck, however, gave its all so that she might live. I could care less about the truck. I'm sorry that it got wrecked, but I am just overjoyed that she's ok. I'm not usually a cup-half-full type of person, but I've not been able to look past the fact that she's ok and in one piece. Insurance will cover the truck; there's no way I can replace my sweet Dawn. Anyway, somebody was looking out for her today. It's been a long day getting her truck taken care of, taking her to prompt care to get checked out, getting the rental care taken care of. I'm spent, but very very very glad to have her home safe.

I have a coworker that bought a house out in the San Joaquin Valley and faced a killer commute. After wrecking two cars in 16 months trying to make it home after working the midnight shift he sold the home and moved back to an apartment near work. Not quite the american dream, but he figured it was just a matter of time before he killed himself or someone else.

Yep, possesions can be replaced or repaired. Loved ones are NOT replaceable. Glad to know that Dawn is OK.
I used to have an 80 mile each way commute. I had to move closer to work before I killed someone elses loved one. I'm not sure how/if I could deal with that if it ever happened.

whew!!! glad she is ok... bruises will heal :)
one of the dangers of pulling all nighters or late shifts... :(

Heh, she's asleep now. Thai food, ice cream, and a slightly dull movie did the trick, though obviously she was exhausted anyway.

I am just sitting here thanking my lucky stars. I don't know how she survived it, but I'm amazingly, overwhelmingly glad she did. She's my everything.

I'm so glad to hear she's ok, man. I know nothing would be more frightening to me than if my girlfriend (God, that's such a condescending term) was in a wreck. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

I'm so glad she's ok. I bet you have a slightly different perspective on things right about now.

One of our oldtimers was working a lot of OT to pump up his average pay for his last three years before retirement. One day he came in joking about falling asleep at the wheel going home the night before, and scraping the car up against the guard rail.

We stopped his OT then and there. Better lower pay and live to retire.

I've heard people say they can't understand how people can fall asleep at the wheel. Those people have never worked a night shift and had to make a long drive home. It can happen to anyone and because of that you have to be extra extra EXTRA! carefull. Glad it was only a minor accident and she could walk away from it.

I like to go for late night walks. The main street through town is also a truck route, and at night, the tractor-trailers come through. When I see one coming, I wait till he's a block or two away, and flick my flashlight at him. As they they approach, they flick their lights, or tap the horn, and wave back.

These guys are pretty good, but it's a long straight road with no traffic, not even a squirrel to rush across the road at that hour to get their attention. :) It doesn't take much effort to help the driver reconnect if he's getting too relaxed.

I'm glad your wife was able to walk away from this one. It's hard to raise much sympathy for a drunk, but it's terrible when hard work can threaten your life.

So glad she's OK Josh. Thats tough. Smoke up from Atlanta!

I hate wrecks.
