Hi guys, I got a new digital camera about a month ago and and slowly learning it. Took some pics of a few knives the other day and want to post them, but need to resize the images. I'm taking the pics at 4MP and thats just a little to big for posting. I want to shrink them down to 1.3MP (1024x768) and 320x480 for thumb nails. Used to have a copy of Photoshop 4.0 but the CD gave out recently. So now I need another program to do the resizing. Does anyone know of a free program for Windows XP that I can resize and change the JPG compression levels with?

One of these days I'll buy Acdsee 8.0 to do basic editing, but till then, I'd like to do some stuff now. Am downloading trial versions of Acdsee 8 and Acdsee Pro 8 to see if they will do what I need. But it anyone knows of a small free program, it would be apreciated. Would really like to share the pics soon. Thanks,

Heber

PM me and I will solve your problem for free.

In Adobe Photoshop go to Image / Image Size / make width and height about 400 pixels / 72 pixels per inch resolution. Then save as Medium resolution and post.

I prefer to use inches to rework my pictures for posting. I reduce the size to 8" width and 72 pixels per inch resolution. I find this makes nice posts and the thunbnails open to something that can be seen.

Thanks for the info Steve, but I no longer have photoshop. about 2 months ago I upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98, went to restinall Photoshop 4.0 and found out that the 10 year old install CD is now bad. Up untill then I was doing my resizing in photoshop.

Finally after about 45 minutes Acdsee finished downloading. The demo can do resizing. Looks like it's fully funtional for the trial period. Thanks for the offer, but now things are under control. Used to use Acdsee 3.5 a lot with windows 98 but need to upgrade now that I moved to XP. www.acdsee.com is the website. It's a cool photo organizer and basic editing program. If anyone is interested.

If anyone knows of a free program for resizing pics, please post a link. It could help someone else and I might could use it as a back up. Thanks,

Heber

Another vote for Irfanview. It'll allow you to do any of the more common picture editing stuff (resizing, cropping, text, sharpening, etc.) and is free.

I have found a very, very (did say "very?") Simple way to do this. I send myself an email with Outlook 2003.

I attach pictures of large size.

It asks if I want to resize the pictures and gives me three options. I pick the middle one. PRESTO! All pictures are sent to me in a useable size for posting. just did 12 at one time.

Not exactly 800x600, but close enough!

Here are a few that began life as 4 mp
