Good Day,

I remember seeing, I think it was a ATC Vietnam Hawk, with a paracord stopper on the end of the handle.

And, I think I have heard of someone cord wrapping the whole thing.

Any images?

Don't know if this is what you wanted but here is my CS Vietnam hawk with mods. Stripped off the paint, ground the egde and spike even, blued the head, stained and sealed the handle, and finally, added a skull crusher.

Cool mods, Disco Stu! I particularly like the addition of the skull crusher on the end of the haft. I think I'm going to have to try that. ;)

Here's a pic of my ATC Vietnam hawk with a paracord wrap under the head:

I like a cord wrap there to improve grip when I've choked up on the handle for close work. I did something similar to my Buxton spike hawk this past weekend. In addition to the cord wrap, I blued the head, cut a series of shallow rings around the haft to improve grip, and refinished the haft (scorched pattern & linseed oil). I'll take & post pix when I have a chance.

I took the next pic to show a haft repair that came out really well but it also shows one of a series of shallow finger grooves that I put on another haft.

Finally, if you scroll to the bottom of my Hawk page, you will see the crude finger grooves & tacks that I had added to the haft of a CS Plainsman to improve grip.

Here's a before & after view of the mods, as described above, to my Buxton spike hawk:

Shoot Brian, if I had known you wanted it black I would have left the forge scale on it and saved us both a lot of work.:D
I like what you've done, makes it look more like it should. Gives it that dangerous look.

Bill

Heck, Bill, forge scale would be too much work for me to remove if I were to decide I want it nice & shiny. :D Bluing, on the other hand, is fairly easy to remove. Just look at my guns. ;)

Seriously, I'm glad you like the mods. The ease of personalizing them is one of the many things I like about hawks. I was going to shoot you a pic but you saved me the trouble. Now, about those polled hawks you made for Sarge... ;)
