I ran across the web page of Steve McCurry today.
He has been shooting for National Geographic for years and years.
His images of Nepal are wonderful, as is all his work.
Go to the Galleries link, and the Nepal images are there.

I thought you guys might enjoy.

Beautiful work. Picture No. 17 in the Afghanistan gallery (Also shown at "Fine Art Print" link) was a memorable cover shot. I remember watching a TV special in which the photographer went back to the area many years later to see if he could find this girl. He ultimately succeeded very close to the end of his trip. Here is a link to the story, with a photo of the girl, now grown:

Here are a few more images from the late 70s. Nonprofessional, so pardon the quality. I have quite a few more that I may get around to loading on the web someday.

Thankyou guys! great photos.

A friend in Nepal whos just set up a guest house tells me it is changing very fast at the momment, know the Kings power has gone. He reckons its very different than even a year ago.

Still I guess the civil war is over & the Maoists & ordinary Hindus have taken back a lot of control from the aristocracy & Brhamin .

western tourists there again {even Americans,} & western & Indian buisnesss moving in.

Loads of migration to India, europe & the middle east as well, Lots of change.

Yeah, thanks for the photos and the link.

The stuff from Kuwait had me mesmerized for the past half hour.

Good to see. I'll be going to nepal in a little over a year now if everything goes according to plan. Hopefully I'll get some shots that powerful, if I do I'll post em (probably even if they are no where near that nice, much more probable).
Latley one of my freinds has been sending me periodic photoupdates from mongolia that are just killing me, I'll have to take a detour north from nepal.

Ah yes, Sharbat Gula, I remember seeing the documentary about it back in 2002. I regret that we gave all my grandmother's National Geographics to the local library... I should have kept the copy with Sharbat on the cover. (kicks self)

My dad, and his father before him, subscribed to National Geographic for years. When my brothers and I got older and moved out, my dad gave us each a gift subscription. After a while, the monthly NG would get thrown in a stack with previous issues, to be read later. Well, "later" turned into "never" and I finally ended the subscription. I sometimes regret not having kept it going.

Another NG cover that was similarly haunting was the one with the naturally mummified baby found in Greenland, its features almost entirely intact.

Pretty much everything steve mccurry has put out book wise has been fantastic, if anyone is ever looking into his work.
