Imagining a Millit Torrent with a deeper-carry clip

The Millit Torrent is a spectacular knife, and TJ Schwarz is an incredible designer. I just wish it had a deeper-carry clip! I mocked this up to see what it'd look like.

All I did was move the rear frame screw further forward, and pull the clip back behind it. The clip's screw placement/shape is contoured to fit around that rear screw; I didn't bother changing that, so if TJ did this for real, it wouldn't need to be shaped quite like that.

I'm not a knife designer, nor a structural engineer, so maybe there's a reason the frame screw needs to be that far back. But it's not hard to find other knives with similar screw placement, so I assume it'd be structurally sound, especially since the back spacer wraps around the back of the knife).

(I'm also not a professional photo editor and did this quickly in GIMP, so forgive any wonky crappiness ;))

Here's the original image showing the actual screw and clip placement on the Millit Torrent for comparison. This particular one is a V3 in full Ti and S90V. Original (pre-edit) photo credit to Reddit user u/cdsilv93. (So no, that's not my hand nor my knife.)

Roughly what it'd look like without the clip, for a better view of screw placement.

Some mp4's (which I can't embed) fading between the original and the mod can be found here: https://imgur.com/gallery/3P9mpbW

I liked the Torrent a lot. It is pretty much my favorite edc profile. Kinda of worked my way up from the ZT 0450 -> Torrent -> Shirogorov Neon Zero -> Brad Southard Mini Tolk.

Can throw the Edgar Cole Chimera in there too.

... that's basically exactly the path I've been heading down for a clean, sleek flipper. Own a 0450, hunting for the right Torrent, still grailing the Neon and Mini Tolk.

This one was new to me, but oh wow is it gorgeous. Definitely fits right in. His site lists it at 0.156" blade stock -- that's pretty darn beefy for such an elegant knife! I wish more makers on the high end would lean toward thinner/slicier blades. The reasonably similar Grimsmo Rask is I think 0.12"? The also-similar Holt Specter is 0.13". There's just something magical about gliding my 0.09" Waypoint through cardboard.

I wonder what other knives have slipped right by me. The Trevor Burger (L)EXK's caught my eye recently.

I’ve been trying to get my hands on a Rask for a while, but they rarely come up for sale. Snapped up quickly even at significant mark up when they do show up.

I have a Specter and it is fantastic. I had a base model Lexk in N690 but moved it. Some day I’ll come across a Ti version at a good price.

I have the Kody Eutsler Dukling, Pena Mula Front Flipper, & the Tuff Prospect Slim at the top of my wish list.

Gotta love a hype frenzy

See, glad I asked -- I had no idea the DUK came in a mini or the Prospect came in a slim.

What's the best deep-carry clip you've seen on a knife in this range? Most have some form of milled Ti clip, and the nature of these make a fully deep-carry design kind of out of the question.

Unless you're Protech. The standard Ti versions of their recent Malibu got the same stainless clips as the aluminum version, but the fancy-fancy ones got these milled Ti deep-carry clips. Not sure I've seen anyone do it quite like that. Makes me wonder why, though. I'd worry about yield strength, but maybe it's fine?

Oh wow, cool! I emailed a link to that imgur gallery to Millit tonight, and Josiah wrote back really quick, saying:

I love your idea and we will for sure take a look at making that change.

Maybe he's just being nice, but it'd be amazing if they actually made this change in a future batch!
